本宮に住まわれた。即位の後、犬上三田耜等を遣唐使とした。その帰朝の時、大唐より高表仁という者が勅使と同道して来朝した。難波まで迎船を遣わした。帰国の時は、対馬まで送らせた。これは唐の太宗皇帝の時に当たった。この代に、三韓皆従い、世も治まったけれども、彗星が度々出現した。その外珍しい星が見え、また大風や長雨等もあった。恵隠という僧を宮中へ召して、無量寿経を説かせた。内裏にて斎を設け、経を講ずることは、これより始まった。天皇治世の間、摂州有間の温泉へ行幸があった。また伊予の温泉へも行幸された。その外方々へ遊猟された。在位十三年にして崩御した。

When returning to their country, they were escorted as far as Tsushima. This corresponded to the time of Emperor Taizong of Tang. In this reign, all three Korean kingdoms submitted, and the world was at peace, but comets appeared repeatedly. Besides these, unusual stars were seen, and there were also great winds and prolonged rains. A monk called Eon was summoned to the palace to expound the Sukhavativyuha Sutra. The practice of holding vegetarian feasts in the imperial palace and lecturing on sutras began from this time. During the emperor's reign, there was an imperial visit to the hot springs of Arima in Settsu Province. There were also imperial visits to the hot springs of Iyo. Besides these, he went hunting in various places. He reigned for thirteen years before passing away.
