聖徳太子の子である山背大兄王と、入鹿は不仲であったので、巨勢徳太郎と土師連に兵を添えて、山背大兄王の住む斑鳩宮を攻めさせた。山背大兄王の奴僕で三成という者が、一人で千人の兵に相当する力で防ぎ戦った。土師連は討たれてしまった。入鹿の兵は引き退いた。その隙に山背大兄王は馬の骨を取って、室内に置き、その妻子を伴って、ひそかに逃げ出して生駒山に隠れた。三輪君や田目連らが従った。巨勢徳はまた進んで、斑鳩宮を焼き、灰燼の中に焼けた骨が多くあったので、山背大兄王は焼死されたと思って、やがて包囲を解いて引き退いた。三輪君が申すには、「これより密かに東国に向かい、軍を起こすべきです。入鹿を滅ぼしましょう」と言った。山背大兄王は「我一人のために、多くの人を煩わせるべきではない」と言って従わなかった。四、五日を経るうちに、入鹿が聞きつけて軍兵を遣わしてこれを尋ねた。山背大兄王は密かに山を出て、斑鳩に帰り、三輪君を使者として、「我が軍を起こせば勝つべき道がある。しかしながら

Prince Yamashiro no Oe, son of Prince Shotoku, was on bad terms with Iruka. So Iruka sent troops under Kose no Tokutaro and Haji no Muraji to attack Ikaruga Palace where Prince Yamashiro lived. A servant of Prince Yamashiro named Mitsunari, with the strength of a thousand men, defended and fought valiantly. Haji no Muraji was killed. Iruka's forces retreated. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Prince Yamashiro took horse bones, placed them in the room, and secretly fled with his wife and children to hide in Mount Ikoma. Miwa no Kimi, Tanome no Muraji and others followed him. Kose no Toku advanced again and burned Ikaruga Palace. Seeing many burned bones in the ashes, they thought Prince Yamashiro had died in the fire, so they lifted the siege and withdrew. Miwa no Kimi said, "From here we should secretly go to the eastern provinces and raise an army to destroy Iruka." Prince Yamashiro replied, "I should not trouble many people for the sake of myself alone," and did not comply.
