両人に授ける。箱の中に、二つの剣があった。速やかに入鹿を斬れと言えども、子麻呂は恐れけれども、鎌足はこれを励ました。されども倉山田が文を読み終えようとするけれども、子麻呂が進み来ない故に、汗を流し、声震え、手もわななく。入鹿は怪しんで問うて言った。「何故に震えわななくのか」と言う。倉山田は答えて言った。「御前が近い故に、とても恐れ多く、汗の流れるのを覚えず」と言う。中大兄は、子麻呂らが入鹿を恐れて進まないのを見て、咄嗟の判断で、すなわち子麻呂らと同時に剣を取って、入鹿の頭と肩とを斬った。入鹿は驚いて立とうとするところを、子麻呂が剣を振って入鹿の片足を斬った。入鹿は転び倒れて、頭を叩き、御座に向かって言った。「臣は何の罪ということを知らず。明らかに察したまえ」と言う。天皇も大いに驚き

...he gave [the swords] to both men. In the box, there were two swords. Though they were told to quickly strike down Iruka, Komaro was afraid, but Kamatari encouraged him. However, as Kurayamada tried to finish reading the document, Komaro did not come forward, so [Kurayamada] broke into a sweat, his voice trembled, and his hands shook. Iruka found this strange and asked, "Why do you tremble and shake?" Kurayamada answered, "Because I am so close to Your Majesty's presence, I am deeply honored and do not realize that sweat is flowing." Seeing that Komaro and the others feared Iruka and would not advance, Prince Naka no Ōe made a split-second decision and immediately took up a sword at the same time as Komaro and the others, striking Iruka's head and shoulder.
