They might be ordered to return directly from that location, but surely they would not be ordered to be expelled if they were to drift like bad ships after that. Of course, in the written exchanges during this time, it appears that the mast was damaged, and if that is indeed the case, immediate return voyage would likely be difficult. That point is hard to calculate. Kuroda Ise-no-kami said that he would report these matters in detail and make repeated inquiries, so a messenger was sent accordingly.
Response from Takagi Saküemon to the Senior Councilors:
I have respectfully read your letter. It is admirable that each of you continues to carry out your duties with utmost dedication. Regarding the ship that drifted to Kishiura in your domain, when this was reported to Tamba-no-kami-dono and Geki-dono, since it was a ship that came without official documents, even if escorted to this port, investigation would be difficult. Moreover, since Geki-dono is in charge of expelling Chinese ships, instructions should come from Geki-dono in any case. There was communication from Tamba-no-kami-dono to Tokunaga Yajiüemon-dono.
From Geki-dono: Since this ship came without official documents as mentioned, if there are no instructions from the magistrate regarding forwarding it, you should understand that it should be expelled. This drifted Chinese ship differs from bad drifting vessels and appears to be a ship that drifted ashore unavoidably due to rough seas, which was common in the past, and there is nothing unlawful about it. However, expelling it might cause problems. As a precaution, a messenger was sent to report to Tamba-no-kami-dono and Geki-dono, and Takagi Zenüemon was sent again. I have understood the oral instructions. Details were discussed with Zenüemon. This matter...
