One entry: Denzo — whose name in Japan had been "Fudenojo" — noticed that the local people, whenever they called to him, always seemed to be saying "Tenzo" or "Tenzou," and so he changed his name to Denzo accordingly.
One entry: Toraemon was hired by a local carpenter and gradually became his apprentice.
One entry: Jusuke, through the care of the "Ryochi," traveled to a place called "Yuuroo," located about three ri from the harbor, where he lodged at the home of a farmer named "Tetsuhani" and called upon a doctor to tend to his health. However, there was no improvement; he developed something resembling dysentery, and died of illness at the end of the first month of the following year. The people of the surrounding area rendered various assistance, and a monk-like figure called "Mishihanka" was asked to handle the funeral arrangements. He chanted what appeared to be sutras, and...
