現代語訳
【右上】
■中品中生（ちゅうぼんちゅうしょう）
中品中生とは、諸の戒を受持する者である。（命終の時）弥陀（の化身である）比丘が蓮華を持ちて行者の前に現れ、空中に声があって言う、「諸仏の教えに随順せしゆえに、我、汝を来迎して彼の国（極楽浄土）に往生せしめん」と。

■中品下生（ちゅうぼんげしょう）
中品下生とは、（命）終わる時に善知識に遇い、その者が阿弥陀仏の国土の楽事を讃え説き、また法蔵比丘の四十八願をも説くのを聞き、（その教えを）聞き終えて、腕を屈伸する間に、すなわち極楽世界に往生する（者である）。

■下品上生（げぼんじょうしょう）
下品上生とは、もろもろの悪業を作った者であって、命まさに終わらんとする時に善知識に遇い、その者が大乗の智者を讃え、また（行者に）「南無阿弥陀仏」と称えるよう教える。行者はすなわち化仏を見て、宝池に往生する（者である）。

■下品中生（げぼんちゅうしょう）
下品中生とは、戒を破り、僧を侮り（悪を犯した者であるが）、自ら（罪を）飾り（隠して）命終の時を迎える者である。（その時）善知識に遇い、念仏すれば（地獄の）火が変じて風となり、諸天の華（はな）を吹き送り、化仏・菩薩がこの人を迎接し、すなわち往生を得る（者である）。

■The Middle Grade, Middle Level of Birth (Chūbon Chūshō)
The middle grade, middle level of birth refers to one who upholds the various precepts. (At the moment of death,) a monk who is a manifestation of Amitābha appears before the practitioner bearing a lotus flower, and a voice from the sky declares: "Because you have followed the teachings of all Buddhas, I come to welcome you and lead you to be reborn in that land (the Pure Land)."

■The Middle Grade, Lowest Level of Birth (Chūbon Geshō)
The middle grade, lowest level of birth refers to one who, (at the moment of death's) end, encounters a good spiritual guide (kalyāṇamitra) who praises and expounds upon the joys of Amitābha Buddha's land, and who also explains the forty-eight vows of the monk Dharmākara (Hōzō Biku). Upon hearing this, in the time it takes to bend and extend one's arm, (the person) is immediately reborn in the world of Ultimate Bliss.

■The Lowest Grade, Highest Level of Birth (Gebon Jōshō)
The lowest grade, highest level of birth refers to one who has committed many evil deeds. When their life is about to end, they encounter a good spiritual guide who praises the wise teachers of the Mahāyāna and further instructs the practitioner to recite "Namu Amida Butsu" (Homage to Amitābha Buddha). The practitioner then sees a transformed Buddha and is reborn in the jeweled pond (of the Pure Land).

■The Lowest Grade, Middle Level of Birth (Gebon Chūshō)
The lowest grade, middle level of birth refers to one who has broken the precepts, shown contempt for the monastic community, and concealed their misdeeds when the moment of death arrives. (At that time,) they encounter a good spiritual guide, and upon reciting the nembutsu, the fires (of hell) transform into wind, which blows celestial flowers (toward them). Transformed Buddhas and bodhisattvas come to welcome this person, and they thus attain rebirth (in the Pure Land).
