■七字文殊
『円覚経疏』第一巻に言う：「此（中国）では『妙首』とも言い、また『妙吉祥』とも言う。『注維摩』では、秦（中国）では『妙徳』と言う。経に曰く：『已に曾て成仏し、名づけて龍種尊という』」

■無尽意菩薩
『名義集』に言う：「阿差末（梵語）、此（中国・日本）では『無尽意』という。天台（智顗）は言う：一切の法性が無尽であることを知るがゆえに、菩薩の発心もまた無尽である」

経に曰く：「能く諸願を満たす、大悲の虚空蔵と名づける。右の手に剣を持ち、左の手に如意宝珠を持つ」

虚空とは、これ大悲の利他が尽きることのないことを表している。『涅槃経』に曰く：「虚空に三つの義がある。一には無変易（変わり易きことなし）、二には無辺際（果てなし）、三には無罣碍（むけいげ・障りなし）」

■Seven-Character Mañjuśrī
The first volume of the Commentary on the Perfect Enlightenment Sutra says: "Here [in China] it is called 'Marvelous Head' (Miaoshou), and also 'Marvelous Auspiciousness' (Miaojixiang). In the Annotated Vimalakīrti Sūtra, it is said that in the Qin [Chinese] tongue it is called 'Marvelous Virtue' (Miaode). The sutra says: 'Having already become a Buddha in the past, [he] was named Nāgavaṃśāgra, the Honored One of the Dragon Lineage.'"

■Akṣayamati Bodhisattva
The Collection of Names and Meanings says: "Akṣayamati [in Sanskrit]; here [in Chinese/Japanese] it is called 'Inexhaustible Intent' (Mujin'i). Tiantai [Zhiyi] says: Because one knows that the dharma-nature of all things is inexhaustible, the bodhisattva's aspiration for awakening is likewise inexhaustible."

The sutra says: "Able to fulfill all wishes, [he] is named the Great Compassionate Ākāśagarbha. In the right hand [he] holds a sword; in the left hand [he] holds a wish-fulfilling jewel."

■Fukuichi-man Ākāśagarbha
"Ākāśa" (Void/Space) represents the inexhaustible quality of great compassion and benefiting others. The Nirvana Sutra says: "Void/Space has three meanings: first, no change or alteration; second, no boundary or limit; third, no obstruction or hindrance (mukei-ge)."
