現代語訳
【右上】
■普賢菩薩
梵語では「邲輸䟦陀（ビシュバッダ）」あるいは「三曼䟦陀（サマンタバッダ）」といい、訳して「普賢」という。『悲華経』に「我が行いは必ず諸菩薩に勝るべし」とある。
仏が言うには、「この因縁をもって、今汝の名を改め、普賢と名づく」と。

■陀羅尼菩薩
梵語では「陀羅尼」、この国では「総持」と訳す。『名義集』に、「総持とは、善を持して失わず、悪を持して生じさせないことである」とある。

■法自在王菩薩
いわゆる「法」とは仏法、「自在王」とはともに自由無礙の義である。これは文殊の別名である。梵語では「曼殊師利」、訳して「妙徳」という。『悲華経』に「歓喜蔵摩尼宝積仏」とある。『楞厳経』には「龍種上尊王仏」という。

■白象王菩薩
白象はすなわち理（真理）を表し示す。「王」とは自在無礙の義であり、いわゆる薩埵の理性に万法を具足し給いて、度生のために自在の妙用を振るい給う威相にしたがって名とする。

■Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (Universal Worthy)
In Sanskrit "Viśvabhadra" or alternatively "Samantabhadra," translated as "Universal Worthy" (Fugen). In the Karuṇāpuṇḍarīka Sūtra it is written: "My practice shall surely surpass that of all bodhisattvas."
The Buddha says: "By this cause and condition, I now change your name and call you Samantabhadra."

■Dhāraṇī Bodhisattva
In Sanskrit "Dhāraṇī," translated in this land as "Sōji" (Total Retention). In the Mingyi ji (Mahāvyutpatti): "Total Retention means to retain the good so that it is not lost, and to retain the evil so that it does not arise."

■Dharmapratīśvararāja Bodhisattva (Sovereign King of Dharma Freedom)
The so-called "Dharma" refers to the Buddha-Dharma, and "Sovereign King of Freedom" together signifies the meaning of unobstructed freedom. This is an alternate name for Mañjuśrī. In Sanskrit "Mañjuśrī," translated as "Wondrous Virtue" (Myōtoku). In the Karuṇāpuṇḍarīka Sūtra, referred to as "Buddha Ānandagarbhamaniratnaśrī." In the Śūraṅgama Sūtra, called "Dragon-Lineage Supreme Honored King Buddha."

■Śvetaśvararāja Bodhisattva (White Elephant King)
The white elephant symbolizes and represents principle (truth/li). "King" signifies the meaning of unobstructed freedom. That is to say, in accordance with the inherent nature (理性) of the bodhisattva-being (sattva), fully endowed with all ten thousand dharmas, and for the sake of liberating sentient beings, the name is given in accordance with the majestic appearance of freely wielding wondrous function.
