■日照王菩薩
知恵の日光をもって衆生の迷いの暗闇を照らし破り給う故に、智徳によって名を得給うた。
『華厳経』に曰く「慧日は世間を照らし、生死の雲を消除す」。

■衆宝王菩薩
「衆」はもろもろと読む。「宝」は珍しいものと訓じて「たから」と読む。「王」は自在の義。故に「もろもろの宝の王」という意味である。宝とは七種の珍宝・七種の王宝のことであるが、それに限らず、一切の宝を合わせて名とし給うた。

■月光王菩薩
この世界の月輪の三徳等の徳義が超勝したところを、この菩薩が具足し給うが故に、そのまま名号に現れて名乗り給う。

諸々の三昧の中において自在を得給う故に、その名を名乗り給う。その三昧とは、正しくは「三摩地」という。これを「正定」と翻訳し、「正心行処（心を正しく保ち行じる境地）」と訳す。

**Nissho-ō Bosatsu (日照王菩薩 / King of Solar Illumination Bodhisattva)**
Using the sunlight of wisdom, this bodhisattva illuminates and dispels the darkness of delusion in which sentient beings are lost. Thus, the name is derived from this virtue of wisdom.
The *Avatamsaka Sūtra* (Huayan Jing) states: "The sun of wisdom illuminates the world, dispelling the clouds of birth and death."
**Shūhō-ō Bosatsu (衆宝王菩薩 / King of Manifold Treasures Bodhisattva)**
The character 衆 (*shū*) is read as "moromoro" (meaning "manifold" or "all manner of"). The character 宝 (*hō*) is glossed as meaning "that which is rare and precious," and read as "takara" (treasure). The character 王 (*ō*) carries the meaning of "sovereign" or "unobstructed freedom." Hence the name means "the sovereign of all treasures." The treasures referred to include the seven precious gems and the seven treasures of a wheel-turning king, but the name encompasses all treasures without limitation.
**Gakkō-ō Bosatsu (月光王菩薩 / King of Moonlight Bodhisattva)**
The virtuous qualities — such as the three virtues and others — that surpass those of the moon disc of this world are fully embodied by this bodhisattva. Therefore, these qualities manifest directly in the bodhisattva's honorific name, which is thus adopted as the name.
**Zanmai Bosatsu (三昧菩薩 / Samādhi Bodhisattva)**
This bodhisattva has attained perfect freedom within all states of meditative concentration (*samādhi*), and thus takes this as the name. The term "zanmai" (三昧) is more precisely rendered as "sammaji" (三摩地, *samādhi* in Sanskrit). In Chinese translation, this is rendered as 正定 (*shōjō*, "right concentration") and interpreted as 正心行処 (*shōshin gyōsho*, "the place of correct mental practice and conduct").
