【右上】
■獅子吼菩薩
獅子とは梵語で「迦羅（から）」という。これを漢訳して「獅子」とも、あるいは「無畏（むい）」とも訳される。この名を付け給うのは、説法して衆生を済度するにおいて、無畏（恐れのない）の威徳を得給うたからである。獅子は獣の中の王であり、どこを遊行しても恐れがないことによる。

■大威徳菩薩
「大」とは普遍・広博の義。「威」とは威勢の義。「徳」とは徳義・功徳の義。「王」とは自在の義。つまるところ、大いなる威勢の道徳をもって、明らかに衆生を済度する大悲が自由無量であるが故に、「大威徳王」という。

■定自在王菩薩
「定」とは禅定の義。ともに自由無礙（じゆうむげ）の義である。

■大自在王菩薩
『涅槃経』に云う、「大とは、その性が広博にして、あたかも虚空のごとし」。『無量寿経』に曰く、「一切万物において、意に随いて自在なり」。大いに自在にして、神変（じんぺん）無礙（むげ）であるが故である。

**Shishiku Bodhisattva (Lion's Roar Bodhisattva)**
"Lion" is called "kara" (迦羅) in Sanskrit. This is translated into Chinese as "shishi" (lion), or alternatively rendered as "mui" (fearlessness). The reason this name is bestowed upon this bodhisattva is that, in preaching the Dharma and saving sentient beings, he has attained the majestic virtue of fearlessness. The lion is the king of beasts, for wherever it roams, it knows no fear.
**Daividoku Bodhisattva (Great Majestic Virtue Bodhisattva)**
"Great" (大) signifies universality and vastness. "Majestic" (威) signifies authority and power. "Virtue" (徳) signifies moral virtue and meritorious qualities. "King" (王) signifies sovereign freedom. Ultimately, because the great moral power of mighty authority clearly manifests in the boundless compassion for saving sentient beings, this bodhisattva is called "Great Majestic Virtue King."
**Jōjizaiō Bodhisattva (King of Sovereign Meditation Bodhisattva)**
"Jō" (定) signifies the meaning of meditation (禅定). Together, they convey the meaning of unhindered freedom and sovereign mastery.
**Daijizaiō Bodhisattva (Great Sovereign King Bodhisattva)**
The *Nirvana Sutra* states: "Great means that its nature is vast and expansive, just as empty space is." The *Sutra of Infinite Life* states: "With regard to all things in the ten thousand phenomena, one is freely sovereign according to one's will." This is because this bodhisattva is greatly sovereign and his miraculous transformations are without hindrance.
