【右上】
■獅子吼菩薩（ししくぼさつ）
「獅子」とは、梵語では「迦羅（カラ）」という。漢語に訳すと「獅子」、あるいは「無畏」とも訳される。さて、この名を付け給うのは、説法して衆生を済度するにおいて、無畏の威徳を得給いしが故なり。
獅子は獣の中の王であり、行動するにあたって恐れることがないためである。
【右下】
■大威徳菩薩（たいいとくぼさつ）
「大」とは普遍・広博の義。「威」とは威勢の義。「徳」とは徳義・功徳の義。「王」とは自在の義。
つまるところ、大いなる威勢の道徳が明らかで、衆生を済度する大悲が自由無量であるが故に「大威徳王」と称する。

■定自在王菩薩（じょうじざいおうぼさつ）
「定」とは禅定の義。「自在」とは自由無礙の義なり。
【左下】
■大自在王菩薩（だいじざいおうぼさつ）
『涅槃経』に云う、「大とは、その性、広博にして、虚空のごとく無量なり」と。
『無量寿経』に曰く、「一切万物において、意に随い自在なり」と。
大いに自在にして、神変無礙なるが故なり。

■Shishiku Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva of the Lion's Roar)
"Lion" (獅子, shishi) is rendered in Sanskrit as "kāra" (迦羅). In Chinese translation it becomes "shishi" (lion), or alternatively it is translated as "fearlessness" (無畏, mui). This name is bestowed upon this bodhisattva because, in the act of preaching the Dharma and saving sentient beings, the bodhisattva has attained the awe-inspiring virtue of fearlessness (mui).
The lion is the king among beasts, for it moves and acts without any fear.

■Daīitoku Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva of Great Awesome Virtue)
"Great" (大, dai) signifies the meaning of universal and all-encompassing. "Awesome" (威, i) signifies the meaning of majestic power. "Virtue" (徳, toku) signifies the meaning of virtuous principle and meritorious virtue. "King" (王, ō) signifies the meaning of sovereign freedom.
In sum, because the moral virtue of great majesty is brilliantly manifest, and the great compassion for saving sentient beings is freely and boundlessly expressed, this bodhisattva is called "the King of Great Awesome Virtue."

■Jōjizaiō Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva of the King of Meditation's Sovereign Freedom)
"Jō" (定) signifies the meaning of meditative concentration (zenjo/dhyāna). "Jizai" (自在) signifies the meaning of unrestricted freedom and absence of hindrance.

■Daijizaiō Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva of the King of Great Sovereign Freedom)
The Nirvāṇa Sūtra (Nehan-kyō) states: "As for 'great' — its nature is vast and all-encompassing, like empty space, without measure."
The Sūtra of Immeasurable Life (Muryōju-kyō) states: "With regard to all things and phenomena, [this bodhisattva acts] freely according to will."
This is because [this bodhisattva] is greatly sovereign and free, with divine transformations unobstructed and without hindrance.
