### ■如意輪観音（にょいりんかんのん）
如意（輪）の本誓の文に曰く、「我れ誓願す、大悲の中において、一人たりとも二世の願を成ぜざることなく、我れ虚妄・罪過の中において本覚に還らざることなく、大悲を捨てじ」と。如意輪は天道の化主にして、すなわち如意珠は天上の勝宝なり。

『止観』に云う、「観音・如幼三昧等の三昧に入りて、人道みな三障を破し、憍慢を降伏し、仏性を見わしめ給う」と。

### **Nyoirin Kannon (Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Avalokiteśvara)**
The text of Nyoirin's original vow (*honsei*) states: "I vow that within [the realm of] great compassion, not a single person shall fail to fulfill the vow of two lifetimes; that I shall not return [any being] remaining amid false deception and sinful transgressions [without returning them] to Original Enlightenment (*hongaku*); and that I shall never abandon great compassion." Nyoirin is the Transforming Lord of the Celestial Realm (*tendō ke-shu*), and the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel (*nyoiju*) is accordingly the supreme treasure of the heavens.

### **Juntei Kannon (Cundī Avalokiteśvara)**
The *Shikan* (*Mohe Zhiguan*) states: "Entering into samādhis such as the Kannon-nyoyō samādhi and others, [this bodhisattva] causes all those in the human realm to break through the Three Obstructions (*sanshō*), subjugate arrogance and conceit (*kyōman*), and behold their Buddha-nature."

### **Fukūkenjaku (Amoghapāśa — Avalokiteśvara of the Unfailing Lasso)**
The *Senju-kyō* (*Thousand-Armed [Kannon] Sūtra*) states: "The Buddha said: this bodhisattva is named Kanzeon Jizai, and is also named Kenjaku (Lasso)." The meaning is this: [this bodhisattva] scatters the bait of the *Myōhō Renge* (Wondrous Dharma Lotus) upon the great ocean of birth and death, and with the mind-concentrated, unfailing lasso (*fukū no saku*), draws up the fish of sentient beings and sends them to the far shore of bodhi (enlightenment).

### **Yōryū Kannon (Willow-Branch Avalokiteśvara)**
Kannon's responsive compassion (*ōshin jihi*) is such that, in whatever manner, it conforms to the inclinations and desires (*gyōyoku*) of each being's capacity — just as a willow branch sways and bends in the spring breeze. For this reason, [Yōryū Kannon] encompasses all of the Six Kannon (*roku kannon*) in its entirety.
