### ■如意輪観音（にょいりんかんのん）
『如意本誓文』に云う。「我が誓願の大悲の中に、一人として（救いの）二世の願いに随わずして（本覚に）還らぬことのないよう、虚妄・罪過の中に還らせずに（本覚へと）還らしめよう」と。

（如意輪観音は）本覚に（帰すことを誓い）、大悲を捨てぬと誓う。如意輪は天道（六道のうち天上界）の化主（教化の主）であり、如意珠（如意宝珠）はすなわち天上の勝宝（すぐれた宝）である。

### ■不空羂索（ふくうけんさく）
『千手経』に云う。「仏曰く、この菩薩を観世音自在と名づく。また羂索（けんさく）とも名づく」と。
○生死の大海に、妙法蓮華の餌（えさ）をまき、心念不空（こころに念ずれば空しからず）の索（なわ）をもって、衆生という魚を釣り上げ、菩提の彼岸（さとりの岸）へ送り届けるという意である。

**Nyoirin Kannon (Wish-Fulfilling Wheel Avalokiteśvara)**
The *Nyoi Honzei Mon* (Scripture of the Original Vows of Nyoirin) states: "Within my vow of great compassion, I swear that not a single person shall fail to follow the vow of the two existences [this world and the next] and return [to Original Enlightenment]; I shall not allow them to remain lost amid falsehood and transgression, but shall return them to Original Enlightenment."

(Nyoirin Kannon) vows never to abandon great compassion (until all beings return to Original Enlightenment). Nyoirin is the transforming master (*keshu*) of the heavenly realm (the highest of the Six Realms), and the wish-fulfilling jewel (*nyoi no tama*) is the supreme treasure of the heavens.

**Juntei Kannon (Avalokiteśvara of Seventy-Seven Kotis of Buddhas)**
The *Shikan* (Mohe Zhiguan; *Mahāśamatha-vipaśyanā*) states: "Entering samādhis such as the 'Kannon-like-a-child samādhi' (*Kannonnyoyū zanmai*) and others, (this Kannon) completely destroys the Three Obstacles (*sanjō*: the obstacles of affliction, karma, and retribution) for all beings in the human realm,

**Fukū Kenjaku (Amoghapāśa — Avalokiteśvara of the Infallible Lasso)**
The *Senju-kyō* (Thousand-Hand Sūtra) states: "The Buddha said: This bodhisattva is called Kanzeon Jizai (Avalokiteśvara). Also called Kenjaku (Lasso)."
○ The meaning is this: in the great ocean of birth and death (*shōji no taikai*), (this Kannon) scatters the bait of the Wondrous Dharma Lotus (*myōhō renge*), and with the lasso (*nawa*) of *shinen fukū* (the infallible [power of] mindful thought), hooks the fish of sentient beings and sends them to the far shore of Bodhi (enlightenment).

**Yōryū Kannon (Willow-Branch Avalokiteśvara)**
Kannon, with a heart of responsive compassion (*ōshin jūhi*), in whatever way it may be, responds and conforms to the desires and wishes (*gyōyoku*) of sentient beings according to their capacity (*ki*),

just as the willow branches sway and bend in the spring breeze. For this reason, (Yōryū Kannon) encompasses all Six Kannon in totality.
