また唇の上の髭を剪って揃えさせる者も時々いる。

五官正について

国中でただ三種類の人が皆僧のように髪を剃っている。一つは医官で五官正と名付けられている。一つは王宮で茶を給仕する役の者で宗叟と名付けられ、また御茶湯とも呼ばれ六人いる。また庭園の管理をする司が六人おり、皆完全に髪を剃って黒色の六つの稜がある幔頂で幅広い縁の帽子を戴いている。これを片帽と名付けている。衣服の外に多くは短掛一領を着ており、大衣より少し短く二、三尺ほどで黒色である。この二種類の人は皆いつ呼び出されるかわからない役務に就いており、髪を梳く時間があると公務に差し障るおそれがあるので、皆手間を省くためにそうしているという。

On the Five Officials (Wukan Zheng)

In the country, only three types of people all shave their hair like monks. One type is medical officials called "Five Officials" (Wukan Zheng). One type consists of those who serve tea in the royal palace, called "Sosou" and also known as "Honorable Tea Service," numbering six people. There are also six people who supervise garden irrigation, all of whom completely shave their hair and wear black six-ridged soft-crowned hats with wide brims, called "片帽" (katabōshi, one-sided hats). Over their clothing they mostly wear a short outer garment called "tankake," which is about two to three shaku shorter than regular robes and is black in color. These two types of people are all engaged in duties where they may be summoned at any time, and since taking time to comb their hair might interfere with official business, they all do this to save time, it is said.
