　[吉姑羅]一名火鳳人家牆上多植之以辟火幹似覇

現代語訳

【吉姑羅】一名火鳳、人家の牆上に多く之を植えて以て火を辟く。幹は覇王鞭草に似て、葉は慎火草に似、花は黄菊に似る。また紅いものもあり福禄木と名づく。

果物には藕、蔗、西瓜、青瓜、木瓜、橘《注：数品》、香橙、金柑、仏手、茘枝、竜眼、葡萄、桜桃、楊梅、覆盆子《注：形は楊梅のよう》、栗、柿、核桃、枇杷、梅《注：小さく竜眼のよう》がある。異産として蕉実等がある。

【蕉実】芭蕉の結ぶ実で甘露花と名づく。紫紅色で大きさは瓢のよう。日に一弁を開き、寔を結ぶこと手の五六指が並んで垂れるよう。採って久しくすると、膚理は藕の最も嫩いものに似て、熟成させると薯のようで甘い。

【阿呾呢】葉は長く旁に刺があり、久しく林をなし蔓が連なって堅利で藩牆となしうる。葉は蓆を造るに可、根は索を造るに可。開花するものは男木で、花は白く蓮弁のように合尖し、左右に迸叠して十余朶直上し、五椏の蘂が露れて杖のように長く数寸、芳烈なこと橘花のよう。女木は花なく実を結び、大きさは瓜のようで膚紋起釘は皆六稜、食うべし。云うに即ち波羅蜜の別種で、粤東にもこれあり、鳳梨と名づく。

【櫧子】一名芝子、橡栗のようで小さく、山中処処にこれあり。一名椎子。

竹には苦竹、猫竹、虎斑竹、鳳竹、竿竹、箒竹、烏竹、大竿竹、矢竹、竻竹がある。異産として観音竹がある。

【観音竹】地に着いて叢生し、葉の長さ尺許、寛三四寸、紫色。

英語訳

【Jikokura】Also called Fire Phoenix, commonly planted on household walls to ward off fire. Stem resembles Bawang whip grass, leaves resemble fire-prevention grass, flowers resemble yellow chrysanthemums. There are also red varieties called Fukuroku wood.

Fruits include lotus root, sugarcane, watermelon, cucumber, papaya, mandarin oranges《Note: several varieties》, fragrant oranges, kumquats, Buddha's hand citron, lychee, longan, grapes, cherries, yangmei, raspberries《Note: shaped like yangmei》, chestnuts, persimmons, walnuts, loquats, and plums《Note: small like longan》. Special products include banana fruit, etc.

【Banana Fruit】The fruit produced by banana plants, called sweet dew flower. Purple-red color, large as a gourd. Opens one petal per day, bears fruit like five or six fingers hanging together. After harvesting and storing for a long time, the texture resembles the most tender lotus root, and when ripened it becomes sweet like sweet potato.

【Ateani】Leaves are long with thorns on the sides, eventually forming forests with interconnected vines that are firm and sharp, suitable for hedges. Leaves can be used to make mats, roots can be used to make rope. Flowering plants are male trees with white flowers like lotus petals coming to a point, bursting and layering left and right with over ten clusters growing straight up. Five-pronged stamens protrude like staffs several inches long, as fragrant as orange blossoms. Female trees have no flowers but bear fruit large as melons with raised surface patterns, all six-ridged and edible. This is said to be a variant of jackfruit, also found in eastern Guangdong where it is called pineapple.

【Chu Seeds】Also called Shishi, like acorns but smaller, found everywhere in the mountains. Also called Shii seeds.

Bamboo varieties include bitter bamboo, cat bamboo, tiger-spotted bamboo, phoenix bamboo, pole bamboo, broom bamboo, black bamboo, large pole bamboo, arrow bamboo, and ding bamboo. Special products include Kannon bamboo.

【Kannon Bamboo】Grows in clusters from the ground, leaves about one shaku long, three to four sun wide, purple colored.
