現代語訳

蠅は皆冬に発生する。蟻は中国と同じだが、腹が水晶のように光り、死ぬと水のような液体が出る。

鱗類には鮫、鯉、鮒、鰻、鰍、蝦、金魚、銀縷魚がいる。珍しい産物には毛魚、針魚、燕魚等がいる。その緑色、紅色、緑の鱗に紅い模様、五彩が混じり合うもの、或いは円いもの、長いものは数え切れない。土地の人はその色やその形で呼んでおり、皆正式な名前はない。海魚を生で切って片にし、夜中の暗いところで見ると、皆明るく透けて緑の火光があり、色は熱河の夜光木のようである。

【毛魚】細かく小さく、外見は腐ったもののようだが、咀嚼すると味がある。福建人は皆これを重んじて珍品とする。七月朔の前後五日、八月朔の前後五日に海中で隊列を組んで出現する。他の月にはいない。

【針魚】頭に針の形を戴く。また鱵とも名づく。【靴魚】頭が長く靴のようである。

【燕魚】燕のようで翼があり飛ぶことができる。古名は鳐、俗に飛魚と呼ぶ。

介類には亀、黿、鼈がいる。珍しいものには玳瑁等がある。

【玳瑁】甲羅は亀や鼈のようで、首尾の形がやや尖り、頭に淡い紅色を帯びる。

【海馬】馬の首に魚の身、鱗がなく肉は豕（豚）のようである。かなり得難く、得た者はまず王に進上する。

【石鮔】首は円く、下に八本の手が生え、脚はない。土地の人は皆これを料理に入れる。

【蟳】肉が最も佳く、味は蟹のようだが大きい。性質は温である。【蟹】大小の種族がそれぞれ異なる。小蟹で五色のものがあり、両方の鋏は左が大きく右が小さい。小さい方で食べ物を取り、大きい方で外敵を防ぐ。ただ大きな鋏は朱紅色で、照火と名づく。小蟹で螺の殻の中に住むものを寄生と名づく。

英語訳

Flies all emerge in winter. Ants are the same as in China, but their abdomens shine like crystal, and when they die, they release droplets of water.

Scaled fish include sharks, carp, crucian carp, eels, loach, shrimp, goldfish, and silver-thread fish. Unusual species include hairy fish, needle fish, swallow fish, and others. Their green, red, green scales with red patterns, five-colored intermixed varieties, some round, some long, are countless. The local people call them by their color and shape, but none have formal names. When sea fish are cut fresh into slices and viewed in dark places at night, they all appear bright and translucent with green firelight, colored like the luminous wood of Rehe.

【Hairy Fish】Small and fine, appearing rotten on the outside but flavorful when chewed. Fujian people all value it as a delicacy. They appear in formation at sea for five days before and after the first day of the seventh month, and five days before and after the first day of the eighth month. They do not appear in other months.

【Needle Fish】Has a needle-shaped head. Also called sayori. 【Boot Fish】Has a long head shaped like a boot.

【Swallow Fish】Like a swallow with wings, capable of flight. Ancient name is ray, commonly called flying fish.

Shelled creatures include turtles, soft-shell turtles, and terrapins. Unusual ones include hawksbill turtles and others.

【Hawksbill Turtle】Shell like turtle or terrapin, with head and tail slightly pointed, head bearing light red color.

【Sea Horse】Horse head with fish body, no scales, flesh like pork. Quite difficult to obtain; those who catch them first present them to the king.

【Stone Cuttlefish】Round head with eight arms growing below, no legs. Local people all use it in cooking.

【Swimming Crab】Has the finest meat, tastes like crab but larger. Mild in nature. 【Crabs】Various species of different sizes. There are small five-colored crabs with two claws, left large and right small. The small one is for taking food, the large one for defense. Only the large claw is vermillion red, called "fire-lighter." Small crabs that live in snail shells are called "parasites."
