金にて冬なと町 外（はつれ）の裏（うら）借家（しやくや）に老人や小児の貧窮（ひんきう）に困（こま）つて
目もあてられぬものかある其所を自身（じしん）にたつね往（ゆき）て其金を
三 銭（せん）目五銭目つゝ施（ほと）し恵（めぐ）み又 花見（はなみ）や開帳（かいてう）にも身（み）軽（かろ）くして
行厨（べんとう）も空腹（くうふく）を養（やしな）ふに足（た）ればよしとして其 倹約（けんやく）にせし
代（かは）りに老乞（ろうこつ）や不具（ふぐ）なる花子（こじき）に施（ほど）せは其病ひは必 治（じ）する

お金で、冬などに町外れの裏借家に老人や小児の貧困に困って目も当てられないような人がいる。その場所を自分で訪ねて行って、そのお金を三銭、五銭ずつ施し恵む。また花見や開帳にも身軽にして、弁当も空腹を満たすに足りればよしとして、その倹約をした代わりに老いた乞食や身体の不自由な乞食に施せば、その病気は必ず治る。これは妙薬である。私がこの方法を信じて行った人は今でも健やかに寿命を保ち、家も栄えている。試しに行ってみなさい。効果は現れるものである。薬は平常時に服用すべきものではない。また少しの外邪であっても早く良医に託し、薬を服用すべきである。必ず売薬などを服用してはならない。わずかな

違いが千里を誤らせ、千丈の堤も蟻の穴から崩れる。「薬を用いない者は中医を得る」という。上医を得て薬を服用すれば良い。もし下医を得て薬を服用すれば、かえって悪くなるので、薬を服用しないとすれば良くもならず悪くもならないので、中医を得るという言葉である。薬はみだりに服用すべきものではない。前に説いたように最初を慎むべきである。発病の初めに医者の薬が的中して速やかに治ると、病気が軽いので速やかに治ったと思う。もしまた初めの医者が治法を誤って重くなると、医者の治療を誤ったこともあるので、重い病気がついたのでこのように重くなったと思う。

If one obtains an inferior doctor and takes medicine, it will make things worse, so if one does not take medicine, it will neither improve nor worsen, hence the saying about obtaining a mediocre doctor. Medicine should not be taken carelessly. As explained before, one should be cautious from the beginning. When a doctor's medicine hits the mark at the onset of illness and cures quickly, one thinks the illness was cured quickly because it was mild.
