せられて身は制外（せいくわい）に居（お）りなからかゝる卑劣（ひれつ）を行（おこな）ふて自（みつか）ら心に
も愧（はぢ）さるは歯牙（しげ）にも論（ろん）にもかゝらぬなり世上の人の医を信せぬは
至極（しごく）尤（もつとも）の道理（とうり）なり故（ゆへ）に医を信せさる輩は医者なる者病
人の腹内へ匍匐（はいり）ては見ず外から見てどふして病ひかしれる
ものではなきなどゝ【濁点の付間違い】いふ族（やから）もあれども総（すべ）てさのみには非ざる
なり我輩（がはい）の野不医（やぶい）たりとも心を用れば見ゆるなり譬（たと）へは
刀（かたな）の柄（つか）に巻（まき）こみし目貫（めぬき）金 無垢（むく）金 焼附（やきつけ）金 衣（きせ）と外からみては
無垢（むく）の焼附か衣（き）せか知れましきものなれとも知れるなり
それも刀の物好（ものずき）もなく一向に取扱（とりあつか）はぬ人は見てもわからぬ

なり取扱（とりあつか）ふ輩（ともから）はおのづから見ゆるなり況乎（いはんや）医者 刀商（かたなや）の刀を
取扱ふかことく病人を取扱ふものゆへ腹の内も外からみゆるなり
又素人か医者の見立違ひといふことをいへともこれも門違ひ
なり素人の意（こゝろ）にては此（これ）は何の病此は何の薬と病名（へうめい）さへ分れ
は薬はおのつから定（さたま）りたるやうに意（おも）ふ輩（ともから）もあれともさには
あらす一病に薬は何百方あるやら数はしれぬほと夥（おほ）く有
なり病名も傷寒（しやうかん）中寒（ちうかん）中暑（ちうしよ）風湿（ふうしつ）黴毒（ばいどく）の類（るい）は病因（へういん）を以て
名（なづ）けしものなり病因とは病ひの因（よつ）て来（きた）る所を因（いん）といふなり

されて身は制外に置かれながら、このような卑劣なことを行って自分の心にも恥じないのは、歯牙にもかからないことである。世上の人が医者を信じないのは至極もっともな道理である。そのため医者を信じない連中は「医者という者は病人の腹の中へ入っては見ないで、外から見てどうして病気が分かるものか」などと言う族もいるけれども、すべてそうではない。我々のような藪医者であっても、心を用いれば見えるものである。例えば刀の柄に巻き込んだ目貫が、純金か、焼き付け金か、着せ金かは外から見ては分からないようなものであっても分かるものである。それも刀の物好きでもなく、全く取り扱わない人は見ても分からない

のである。取り扱う仲間は自然と見えるものである。まして医者は刀商が刀を取り扱うように病人を取り扱うものなので、腹の内も外から見えるものである。
また素人が医者の見立て違いということを言うけれども、これも見当違いである。素人の考えでは「これは何の病気、これは何の薬」と病名さえ分かれば薬は自然と決まったように思う仲間もいるけれども、そうではない。一つの病気に薬は何百方あるか数は知れないほど多くある。病名も傷寒・中寒・中暑・風湿・梅毒の類は病因をもって名づけたものである。病因とは病気のよって来る所を因というのである。その他の病名はみなその見たる所の形をもって名とするのである。

Therefore, those who do not trust doctors say things like "How can doctors, who do not crawl inside the patient's belly to look, know what illness it is just by looking from the outside?" Though there are such people, this is not entirely the case. Even we quack doctors can see if we apply our minds to it. For example, whether the menuki ornament wrapped around a sword hilt is pure gold, fired gold, or plated gold - though it may seem impossible to tell from the outside, it can be known. However, those who have no interest in swords and do not handle them at all cannot tell even when they look.

Those who handle them can naturally see the difference. Moreover, since doctors handle patients just as sword dealers handle swords, the inside of the belly can also be seen from the outside.
Also, when laypeople speak of doctors' misdiagnosis, this too is misguided. In the layperson's mind, some colleagues think that once they know "this is what disease, this is what medicine" - once the disease name is identified, the medicine is naturally determined - but this is not so. For a single disease, there may be hundreds of medicinal formulas, countless in number. Disease names like typhoid fever, cold damage, heat stroke, rheumatism, and syphilis are named according to their causes. Disease cause refers to the origin from which the illness comes. All other disease names are designated according to the observed symptoms and manifestations.
