応声虫（おうせいちう）を病者（やむもの）あり

程（ほど）の事（こと）を腹中（ふくちう）にて答（こた）ふる也

現代語訳
昔、中国（唐山）の張という国に文中子という名医がいた。ある時、応声虫（おうせいちゅう）を患う者があった。この病は、その病人が言う言葉を腹の中から答える（=こだまする）というものである。
文中子はここにおいて本草（書）を開き、病人に薬の名を読み上げさせた。はたして、「藍（あい）」と「雷丸（らいがん）」のところにいたって、口に言えども腹の中からは答える声がない。
文中子は藍と雷丸を服用させて、その病はついに治った。

Long ago, in the land of Zhang in China (Morokoshi/Tang Mountain), there lived a renowned physician called Bunchūshi. One day, a person fell ill with a condition known as *ōseichū* (the "echo worm"). This ailment was such that whatever words the afflicted person spoke, an answering voice would respond from within the belly.
Bunchūshi thereupon opened the *Honzō* (the Materia Medica), and had the patient read aloud the names of the medicines listed within. Sure enough, when they reached "ai" (indigo/Isatis) and "raigan" (Quisqualis/Ficus pumila, a medicinal herb), though the patient spoke the words aloud, no answering voice came from within the belly.
Bunchūshi administered ai and raigan to the patient, and the illness was at last cured.
