太郎介の
性根玉はいよいよ
腐り、今日は日暮らし
明日は向島と
毎日遊山を
商売のように
して日を送り、今日も
王子参りの帰りがけ
久しく吉原の
方を見ぬから
今日は箕輪から土手を
横切りにして、随分帰りに
少しと思った
茶店に腰をかけて
いる所へ昔馴染みの
五色玉屋の若い者
通りかかりければ目玉が早く
見つけて「これこれ喜介、久しい
どうだ」と声をかければ
喜介は良い食い物に
ありついたと嘘八百を

Tarosuke's
character has become increasingly
corrupt, today idling away the day,
tomorrow going to Mukojima,
spending every day
on pleasure trips
as if it were his business,
passing his days. Today too,
on his way back from visiting Oji shrine,
since he hadn't seen
the Yoshiwara district
for a long time,
today he cut across
from Minowa via the embankment, and thinking
to rest a bit on the way back,
he sat down
at a tea shop.
Just then, a young man
from the familiar Goshikitama-ya
happened to pass by, and Medama quickly
spotted him, calling out "Hey, hey Kisuke, it's been
a long time, how are things?"
Kisuke, having come upon
good fortune, scattered
lies left and right, and finally
made it two sticks
of namisen
