【柱】四編 一
悪玉善玉は
一つの名前であって、また一つの
名前ではない。たとえば
良い玉は福の
神のようで、悪い玉は
貧乏神のようである。
人に慈悲善根を
行う人は子孫繁
栄して何一つ
不足なく、三度の
ご飯も
たくさん食べて
不相応な
身の上で金
たくさん
持ち、
父は母を
可愛がり
母は
父を
大事に
敬い
その子は
父母に
孝行を
尽くす。
これがその
家の
善玉
である。
歌に
〽正直を誠の端に持ち添えて
三度いただく飯の善玉

また悪玉というのは、稼業を
そりゃ楽にして大酒を飲み
身の上で金は脇物、乞食も
米の飯を食うと
ばかり
心得
て、
父は
母を
邪険
に扱い
母は父を
野郎
呼ばわりして

不孝を尽くし
ついに
親
の
首
へ縄
を
付ける。
これがその家の
悪玉である。ここの所を
了見すれば
善玉悪玉は
おのれおのれの心に
あると知るべし。

打って掛かれど受けぬ悪玉

Evil gems and good gems
are one name, yet also not one
name. For example,
good gems are like the
god of fortune, while evil gems are like
the god of poverty.
People who practice
compassion and good deeds toward others
have their descendants prosper,
lacking nothing,
eating their three meals
a day abundantly.
Though of humble
station, they have
plenty of
money.
The father
cherishes the mother,
the mother
respects and
honors
the father,
and their children
show filial
piety
to their parents.
This is that
household's
good gem.
In verse:
〽With honesty held alongside sincerity
The good gem of rice eaten thrice daily

Also, what is called an evil gem neglects
work for the sake of ease, drinks heavily,
thinking that even beggars
eat rice meals, so money
is just a
side matter.
The father
treats the mother
harshly,
the mother calls the father
a scoundrel,
and their child
shows unfilial behavior
to the parents,
finally
putting a rope
around the parent's
neck.
This is that household's
evil gem. If one
considers this matter,
one should know that
good gems and evil gems
exist within each person's own heart.
In verse:
〽The quarrelsome couple's fight like soba noodles—
Though struck and served, the evil gem won't take it
