時にか有けんうら嶋や
太郎介といふ男せう
ばいは何ともしらねと

のうらくものにて

ころ狂言和尚とて
心がくにつうじたる
人ありある日太郎介に
心がくの
ゑときを

それ
人の
からだ

あくしゆ

しな玉あり
くび玉あればまたくらに
きん玉ありはるはあら
玉の
としをいわひあきは
なきたまのまつりを
なすこんにち
いのちをつなぐも
天の玉ものまして
おのれがしやうね玉を
みがゝねばする事
なす事へだまの
ごとくさ？れはうぢ
なくて玉のこしへのり
いやしくして玉だれの
うちにめさるぜん人の
玉とあく人の玉は
水仙とにんにくの玉の
ごとしかたちは
よくにたれども
くさき
よこしま

目玉を
あきらかに
してみちを
まなぶ人は
玉にきづなき
ものといふべし
されば神詠（しんゑい）に
〽七つ八つ十ぅのしら玉きづつかで

閑話休題（それはさておき）、いつの時代にかあったという浦島や
太郎介という男。商売
は何ともわからないが、
ちょっとした生半可な知識人の
能楽者で、
いつも心学を好み、
毎晩講釈を
聞きに行っていた。またその
頃狂言和尚といって
心学に通じた
人がいた。ある日太郎介に
心学の
解説を
する
それ、
人の
体
に善
悪種々
の
品玉があり、
首玉があればまた倉に
金玉あり。春は新
玉の
年を祝い、秋は
泣き玉の祭りを
なす。今日
命をつなぐのも
天の玉。ましてや
己が生来の玉を
磨かねばする事
なす事、下手な玉の
ごとく。されば氏
なくて玉の輿に乗り、
卑しくして玉だれの
内に召される。善人の
玉と悪人の玉は
水仙とにんにくの玉の
ごとし。形は
よく似ているけれども
臭き
邪（よこしま）
あり。
よくよく
目玉を
明らかに
して道を
学ぶ人は
玉に傷なき
ものというべし。
されば神詠に
〽七つ八つ十の白玉傷つかで
人の参れる社なりけり。じゃあ天下
々々
〽こうばかり
言ってはわかるまいから
お主に玉手箱
というものを
授けよう。
しかしここは
竜宮
じゃァ
ねえよ
〽木九つに火三つの
山に土一つと
いえど人間の
体に玉の
ある事九つ
くらいの
事でなし。
この他
煩悩の
玉が百八
あるが
それは
ここへは
書きつく
されぬ
から
背中の
方へ
回って
見るが
よい
太郎介はただ
なるほどそうだと
相槌を打っている
善悪の
玉手箱

英語訳
Setting aside this digression, there once was a man named Urashima
Taronosuke. His occupation
is unknown, but he was
a somewhat pretentious intellectual
Noh performer
who always enjoyed studying Shingaku (heart learning)
and went to hear
lectures every evening. Also at that
time there was a kyogen monk
who was well-versed
in heart learning. One day he gave Taronosuke
an explanation
of heart
learning:
"Listen,
in the human
body
there are good
and evil, various
kinds of spirit-balls.
If there are neck-balls, then there are also gold-
balls in the storehouse. In spring we celebrate new
balls of the
year, in autumn we hold
festivals of crying balls.
Today we sustain life
through heaven's balls. Moreover,
if one does not polish
one's innate balls,
everything one does becomes like
clumsy balls. Thus some
without lineage ride in jeweled palanquins,
while the humble are summoned
into jeweled chambers. The
balls of good people and evil people are
like the bulbs of narcissus and garlic.
Though their shapes
closely resemble each other,
there is a foul
wickedness.
Those who
truly open
their eye-balls
clearly
and study the Way
should be called
those with flawless balls.
Thus in divine poetry:
〽Seven, eight, ten white balls remain unflawed—
This is the shrine where people worship. Well, throughout the realm,
everywhere!
〽Speaking only like this
you probably won't understand,
so I shall bestow upon you
something called a jeweled box.
But this isn't
the Dragon Palace,
you know!
〽Though we speak of nine wood, three fire,
one earth on the mountain,
it's not just about
nine balls
existing in the human
body.
Besides this,
there are one hundred eight
balls of worldly desires,
but since
those
cannot be
written
here,
it would be best
to go around
to the back
and
look"
Taronosuke simply
nods in agreement, saying
"Indeed, that's so"
