現代語訳

松前・箱館・島（蝦夷地）では、積雪の季節になると、子どもたちが坂のある場所に集まり、図（挿絵）のように、深く積もった雪の坂を滑り下ることを、この上ない楽しみ（極楽）としている。滑る時には皆、「されよ、されよ（どけどけ）」と声をかけながら滑っていく。

英語訳

In Matsumae, Hakodate, and the islands (of Ezo), when the snowy season arrives, children gather at places with slopes and, as shown in the illustration, take the greatest delight (describing it as "paradise") in sliding down the deeply snow-covered hillsides. As they slide, they all call out "Sare yo, sare yo!" ("Get out of the way! Get out of the way!") to those below.
