現代語訳
新右衛門がしばらく好きにして目を開けば、ちょうど竜宮に着いていた。ここも蓑笠で隠れて見ると、大昔の通りの竜宮ばかりである。まず、ここでは八大竜王に刃向かうものはない。鳥獣の世界は人と混じり合って住むので、時々の変わり目がある。また海中は広いと言えども、潮の差す限りを竜王の支配としている。それゆえ、平目や鯛の上にも立たず、ぼらや鈴木は名を改めるたびに御目見えすることになる。さて世上で河豚が人の命を取るということを聞き、竜王がこれを改めようと近くに呼ばれ、このことを問い給えば、河豚が申すには「その儀は我々のなす所ではなく、『ちょう』という虫が付いて人を害することでございます」と明白に申し訳を立てたけれども、竜宮へ悪名を付けたことの恥ずかしさと、我が家へ帰るとそのまま腹をかき切って死んでしまった。それゆえか、今も河豚に限って腹わたがない。このくらい厳しい所なので、王法の正しいことであった。
新右衛門が忍んでいて思うには、「淡海公の時分、この蓑笠で玉取りを頼まれたら上手くいくことだ。しかし盗むことには効かないかもしれない」。
♪鈴木や鯔の類は元々川より勤めるものゆえ、成長に従って官名を下される。また竜宮に住むものは鯛より飛魚まで親の名を継ぐのはよく決まった世界なり。
昔より鈴木の父と今□が上ったのは家の面目ありがたくございます。

When Shinemon opened his eyes after a while, he found himself at the Dragon Palace. Here too, hidden by his straw raincoat and hat, he could see it was exactly like the Dragon Palace of ancient times. First of all, here there was nothing that would oppose the Eight Great Dragon Kings. The world of birds and beasts mixes and lives with humans, so there are occasional changes. Although the sea is said to be vast, the Dragon King's dominion extends as far as the tide reaches. Therefore, even flounder and sea bream do not stand above others, and grey mullet and sea bass must appear before the king each time they change their names. Now, having heard that in the world above, pufferfish take human lives, the Dragon King summoned one nearby to reform this matter. When asked about this, the pufferfish replied, "This matter is not of our doing, but rather a parasite called 'cho' that attaches to us and harms people," giving a clear explanation. However, ashamed of having brought a bad reputation to the Dragon Palace, when it returned home, it immediately slit its own belly and died. Perhaps for this reason, even now only pufferfish have no intestines. This shows how strict a place it is, demonstrating the righteousness of royal law.
Shinemon, hiding and thinking to himself: "In the time of Lord Tankai, if I had been asked to retrieve jewels with this straw raincoat and hat, it would have gone well. But it probably wouldn't work for stealing."
♪Sea bass and grey mullet and their kind originally serve from the rivers, so as they grow they are granted official names. Also, those who live in the Dragon Palace, from sea bream to flying fish, inherit their parents' names - it's a well-ordered world.
Since ancient times, the ascension of sea bass's father and the current □ brings great honor to the house.
