新右衛門は竜宮もひととおり見物したが、食事の時間までも用心深く、毒に当たって帰るつもりで出立とある。この構造の中を覗いて見れば、医者らしき者が大勢治療に来た病気は、十人が九人は口中を痛めた顔を多く見受けられる。これはみな釣られて釣り針を飲み込んだ者たちである。昔、彦火火出見尊が海幸彦という魚に釣り針を取られ給うたのを、この所に尋ね来て取り返して帰られたことを、今では知る者がいないと見えた。それが知れていれば一匹も釣られるはずがない。
とにかく棘のある食べ物に当てられたとばかり思うのももっともである。また鰐に噛まれた鯨は膏薬を貼ると絵のようである。さて小魚の怪我は浅草川の辺りのように生じた。そうすれば川水は竜宮の湯治場なのか。鯨などは湯治とは親しみがあるので、膏薬で治すのももっともである。
♪膏薬か腰針か知れぬ、いっそ手で塗るのが良さそうな理屈だ。
