現代語訳
青本は錦絵が美しいのに夢中になり、長唄本や義太夫の抜き本、三芝居の合わせ無席などを呼び集めて、一緒に持てはやしている。
「息子はありがたや、様をつかやな」
錦絵は青本に惚れたというわけでもないが、ためにもなりそうなので、そうそうにお茶を濁して置いたため、絵空事と言い始めるのである。
「もし、子どもの狂言本をお呼びなさい」
「ああ、つがも、ねえ、ちんちん」
「お手拍子を早く」
「よし、なんし」
「手前も十六武蔵というから、もう毛が生えただろう」
英語訳
The blue book becomes absorbed in the beauty of the nishiki-e prints and calls together nagauta books, gidayū excerpt books, and unreserved seats from the three theaters, holding them in high regard together.
"Son, how grateful, use 'sama' properly"
The nishiki-e, though not exactly smitten with the blue book, thinking it might be beneficial, quickly glosses over the matter, which is why it begins to call it mere fantasy.
