黒本は三人を頼み、まんまと柱隠しを盗み出し、家へ連れて来たところ、女房いろはは短気で、何の訳も知らず、大の焼き餅で、夫婦喧嘩を始め、お決まりのすりこぎで叩き追う始末。
「小者など、大坊の心を知らん。深き了見の有る事も知らないで、ここな夜明けのピンゾロ目が...」
「道化百人衆止める。それはあんまり短気じゃ。」
「真っ黒くなって腹を立つ。」
「ええい、邪魔なそこ道化。」

青本は妹の行方いかがと青くなり、一枚絵切りに立ち尽くすところ、黒本・赤本の仕業とは夢にも知らず、「柱隠しと申すから紙隠しにでもなりはしないか。ただし田舎への土産にでも買われはしないか」と案じ、何によ一代の付けを読んで占わせる。
四日市、両国辺りも尋ねました。馬鹿なことを願に掛け、大師様のお神籤もすべて吉さ。
「馬鹿が付いて行かぬ駅の表じゃ。これはとうとう湯島か神明前の床見世をお探しなされい。」
英語訳
The black book (kurohon) enlisted three people and successfully stole the "pillar-hider" and brought her home. However, his wife Iroha, being short-tempered and knowing nothing of the circumstances, became extremely jealous and started a marital quarrel, chasing him with the usual pestle.
"You servants don't understand the master's heart. You don't know about matters requiring deep consideration, and here at dawn you roll snake-eyes..."
"The comic troupe of one hundred stops this. That's far too hot-tempered."
"Turning completely black with rage."
"Hey! Get out of the way, you comedians!"

The blue book (aohon) turns pale wondering about his sister's whereabouts. Standing still like a single-sheet picture, he has no idea it's the doing of the black book and red book. "Since it's called 'pillar-hider,' might she have become a 'paper-hider'? Or perhaps she was bought as a souvenir for the countryside?" Worrying thus, he has fortune-telling performed using various divination methods.
He searched around Yokkaichi and the Ryogoku area as well. Making foolish vows, even the great master's oracle slips all say "good fortune."
"The fool can't keep up - this is the front of the station. You should finally search the brothel stalls in front of Yushima or Shinmei shrine."
