正月元三のことぶきいわゐて京の町人たちわつさりとかとれい#1にありくとき
一きうおせうたけのさきにされかうべをつらぬきもちてみな人ごとはかくなり
給ふぞかし三界唯一心（さんかいゆいいつしん）
心外無別法（しんげむべつほう）
心仏及衆生（しんぶつげうしゆぜう）

現代語訳
正月元日から三日までの祝いを祝って、京の町人たちが賑やかに門礼に歩き回っている時、一休は小さな竹の先に髑髏を貫き通して持ち、皆人にこう言って回った。「皆このようになってしまうのですよ。三界唯一心（さんがいゆいいっしん）、心外無別法（しんげむべつほう）、心仏及衆生（しんぶつきゅうしゅじょう）、是三無差別（ぜさんむしゃべつ）。御用心、御用心」と言って、洛中を持ち歩いていらっしゃったので、「さてもさても忌まわしいことよ」
「これはこれは」と言って避けて逃げ散った。しかし仏法に心を向ける人は「ああ、一休の御教示、まことにありがたいことです」と申したのであった。
【ここより中巻】
今出川のほとりにいる未亡人が、仏の忌日だと言って一休の庵室へ布施を持参して参った。和尚は「これはこれは、奇特にもよくお参りくださいました」と言って、様々にもてなし、酒の馳走をした後で、一休はこの女性をしっかりと捉えて、「身も心も命取りとは君のことよ。さあ、説法と一夜の枕を」
交わしなさいと無理に女性を引き込んで犯そうとした。この妻は驚いて振り切って、慌てふためいて自分の家へ戻った。
英語訳
During the New Year celebrations from the first to the third day, when the townspeople of Kyoto were bustling about making their New Year rounds, Ikkyu carried a skull pierced through on the tip of a small bamboo stick and went around saying to everyone: "All people will become like this. The three realms are only one mind (sangai yui isshin), outside the mind there is no other dharma (shinge mu beppō), mind, Buddha, and sentient beings (shinbutsu kyū shujō) - these three are without distinction (ze san mu shabetsu). Be careful, be careful!" As he walked around Rakuchū carrying this, people said "How truly inauspicious this is!"
"Oh my, oh my!" they said, avoiding him and scattering away. However, those who were devoted to the Buddhist teachings said, "Ah, Ikkyu's teaching is truly precious and grateful."
[From here begins the middle volume]
A widow living near the Imadegawa River came to Ikkyu's hermitage bringing offerings, saying it was Buddha's memorial day. The priest said, "Oh my, how admirably and well you have come to visit!" He entertained her in various ways and served her sake and food. Afterward, Ikkyu firmly grabbed this woman, saying "Body and soul, life-taking - that refers to you, my dear! Come now, let us share dharma teaching and a night's pillow together!"
He tried to forcibly pull the woman in and assault her. The woman was shocked, broke free, and fled in panic back to her own home.
