現代語訳
妻は家に帰って夫にありのままの次第を話した。今後は離縁して二度と一休に会ってはならないと言う。夫が言うには「いや、それは苦しからず。和尚の御心に従うべきである。何の聖門にて我が嫉む心なし」と言う。
それならばと言って、女は再び取って返し、一休のもとへ参り「御心に従いましょう」と言えば、もはや休んでいらっしゃったが、先ほどはその気があったが、もはや今では嫌になった。早々にお帰りなさいとある。女が帰って夫にこのように言えば、その恥にその御心を知るゆえに遣わしたのだと言ったということである。
堺にて又次郎という者が河豚汁を食らって遂に亡くなった。日頃御懇ろであったので一休を招き御引導をお頼み申し上げると申し越したところ、嫌だ、説法に行くまでもない。この書き付けを遣わすので、これにて読んで葬るべしとして遣わしなさった。仰せなればとてその通りに行った。この御引導の書き付けは秘蔵してその家の宝として、月夜まで（永遠に）あるとかいう。

海中に毒魚あり、名を河豚魚という。面腹白く背斑なり。人この魚を食わず。
ああ痛ましいかな又次郎、これを食らって忽ち死す。

The wife returned home and told her husband exactly what had happened. He said she should divorce and never meet Ikkyu again. The husband said, "No, that would not be right. You should follow the priest's wishes. In this sacred gate, I have no jealous heart."
"If that is so," said the woman, and she turned back again to go to Ikkyu, saying "I will follow your wishes." But he was already resting, and though he had had such intentions earlier, now he no longer wanted to. "Go home quickly," he said. When the woman returned and told her husband this, he said he had sent her knowing that this shame would reveal the priest's true heart.
In Sakai, a man named Matajiro ate fugu soup and eventually died. Since he had been on intimate terms with Ikkyu for some time, they invited Ikkyu and requested that he perform the funeral guidance. Ikkyu replied, "No, there's no need to go and give a sermon. I'll send this written piece instead - use this to read and bury him." He sent it as commanded. They did as instructed. This written funeral guidance was treasured as a family heirloom, said to last until the moonlit nights (forever).

In the sea there is a poisonous fish, called the fugu fish. Its face and belly are white, its back is spotted. People do not eat this fish.
