現代語訳
あの悪い魂が理太郎の体に入ろうとしたが、天帝に咎められてから、身の置き所もなく、相応の体も現れず、入ろうと思っても、当時は儒仏神の尊い道が盛んに行われていて、人々が皆悪い心を持たないので、立ち入るべき場所もなく、
宙にふわふわと浮いていたが、機会があれば理太郎の体の良い魂を亡きものにして、我々が長く理太郎の肉体の中を住処にしようと企んでいた。
【以下、悪魂たちの台詞】
「なんと、この群れで五十番も巡っているのではないか」
「いい体の皮を買いたいものだ」
「この頃は心学とやらが流行るから、俺らが住まいをするような不埒な者の助けがないのには困る」
「皮を並んだ所は今、朝飯でも始まるようだ。数珠を忘れた百万遍の婆もある」
「お前たちが不詳により身を果たした者の悪い魂ども、中有に迷っている」
英語訳
That evil soul tried to enter Ritaro's body, but after being reproached by the Heavenly Emperor, it had no place to rest. No suitable body appeared, and though it wanted to enter one, at that time the noble ways of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Shintoism were being practiced vigorously, and since all people held no evil hearts, there was no place for it to enter.
It was floating aimlessly in the air, but when the opportunity arose, it plotted to destroy the good soul in Ritaro's body and make Ritaro's flesh its permanent dwelling place.
【The following are the dialogues of the evil souls】
"What! Haven't we been circling around this group for the fiftieth time?"
"We want to buy the skin of a good body."
"These days, something called 'heart learning' (shingaku) is popular, so we're troubled that there are no immoral people to help us find a dwelling."
"Where the skins are lined up, it seems like the morning meal is about to begin. There's even an old woman who forgot her prayer beads for the million-fold recitation."
"You evil souls of those who met their end due to misconduct are wandering in the intermediate state (chuu)."
