現代語訳
ここに江戸日本橋のほとりに、目前屋理兵衛という欲深な商人がいた。妻が身ごもって、当たる十月季節というときに出産して、玉のような安産を迎えたので、かない（妻）は祝詞を述べてささやいた。
「幼きは白い糸のごとく、いかようにも染まるものなりとは、なるほどそうですね」
理兵衛が稼ぎに出世しようとするのと同時に、あの歪んだ悪い魂が赤子へ分け入ろうとするところを、天帝が現れ出て、悪い魂の手をねじり、完全に丸い良い魂を入れ給う。これは理兵衛が常に一心に心を治め良いゆえに、天帝が恵みを垂れ給うゆえである。されども凡夫の目には少しも見えないのが情けないことよ。
「ここ、構わずと行け」

英語訳
Here, near Edo's Nihonbashi, there was a greedy merchant named Ganzen-ya Rihei. When his wife became pregnant and gave birth in the appropriate October season, she had a jewel-like easy delivery, so his wife (kanai) offered prayers and whispered:
"The young are like white thread, able to be dyed in any way - this is indeed true."
Just as Rihei was trying to advance in making money, that distorted evil soul was about to enter the baby when the Heavenly Emperor appeared, twisted the evil soul's hand, and inserted a perfectly round good soul. This is because Rihei constantly disciplined his heart with single-minded devotion, so the Heavenly Emperor bestowed his mercy. However, it is pitiful that ordinary people's eyes cannot see this at all.
