大江匡房は文章博士となり、日々学問所において公卿のある菅公の御作の『弓管鳥のこと』もその折から読まれるようになったので、聞く人は日々絶えることがなかった。
「それでは節法に申し上げます。雄才という所で菅公の作の『弓管鳥』を読みましょう。まず天下国家を治める政治と申すものは、時と勢いと位との三つを得なければなりません。例えば春の鯉が滝を上るようなものだと、菅公の『弓管鳥』に詳しくお書きになされて差し置かれた。」

Oe no Masafusa became Doctor of Literature, and from that time forward, Minister Sugawara's work "About the Bow-Tube Bird" was read daily at the academy before the court nobles. The audience grew day by day without cease.
"Now let me explain according to proper method. In the section on great talent, let us read Minister Sugawara's 'Bow-Tube Bird.' First, the governance called politics that rules the realm and nation requires three things: timing, momentum, and position. It is like a spring carp ascending a waterfall - this is described in detail in Minister Sugawara's 'Bow-Tube Bird.'"
