鎮西八郎の門人は非常に多くなり、中でも海野太郎の一子小太郎は、生年七歳で南蛮鉄の兜を射抜いたので、あまりにも珍しいことだとして、その弓矢と兜を額にして清水の観音に奉納した。

義経と小栗判官の門人はこれを聞いて気にかけるようになり、義経の門人は五条の橋での千人切りの額を、小栗の門人はあの古法剣に馬を描かせて額を奉納した。この三枚の内で馬の額は絵描きの手からばかり見えて、さりともそんな奉納であることよ。

The disciples of Chinzei Hachirō (Minamoto no Tametomo) became very numerous. Among them, Kotarō, the only son of Unno Tarō, at the age of seven shot through a nanban iron helmet. This being such an extraordinary feat, they made a votive plaque of that bow, arrow, and helmet and dedicated it to the Kannon of Kiyomizu.

The disciples of Yoshitsune and Oguri Hangan, hearing this, became concerned. Yoshitsune's disciples dedicated a plaque of the thousand-man slaying at Gojō Bridge, while Oguri's disciples had an artist paint a horse using the ancient sword technique and dedicated that plaque. Among these three plaques, the horse plaque shows only the artist's skill, but still, what a dedication it is!
