Additionally, as Kichibei was unwell, [the document] was submitted through the intermediary of Mr. Nakayama; after the Hour of the Rooster [around 2–3 p.m.], the matter was concluded as customary.
Those of us on official duty at Kitahara and Shimohashi were summoned to the magistrate's office, and thus the two individuals were unable to attend.
