現代語訳
《題：夢中国》《割書：むちゅう｜ こく》
和荘兵衛はまた「夢中国」という国にやって来た。この国の人は常に夢を商売にする国である。万事すべてが夢であるために、道で盗賊に出会い切られても傷つかず痛まない。逃げようとするが走ることができず、声も立たない。また金を拾い嬉しいと思っても手に握るのみで本当の金ではない。美味しいものを食らっても腹に溜まらず、また難儀なのは小便が詰まった時、思うように用を足すことができない。また高い所から落ちても冷や汗をかくばかりで痛みもしない。また宙を飛び歩くことがある。花が咲くかと見れば雪が降り、紅葉が散るぞと思えば暑いこと六月のごとく、春夏秋冬の隔てもなく、昼夜の分かちもない。これらみなこの国の性質であり、世渡りである。

Wa Sōbei came to yet another country called "Dream Country." The people of this country constantly make dreams their business. Since everything is entirely made of dreams, even when they encounter bandits on the road and are cut down, they are not wounded and feel no pain. They try to flee but cannot run, and their voices make no sound. When they pick up money and think themselves fortunate, they can only grasp it in their hands, but it is not real gold. Even when they eat delicious food, it does not fill their stomachs. What is particularly troublesome is that when their bladder is full, they cannot relieve themselves as they wish. Even when they fall from high places, they only break out in cold sweat but feel no pain. Sometimes they fly through the air. When they think flowers are blooming, snow falls; when they think autumn leaves are scattering, it becomes as hot as June. There is no distinction between spring, summer, autumn, and winter, nor between day and night. All of this is the nature and way of life in this country.
