和荘兵へ又一つのくにゝ
いたるこのくにはあん
めいこくといふてくらく
まとふといふくになり
此くにはたこくの一月か
此くにの一ねんなり一日が
一月一時か一日なりゆへにたこく
の一日十二ときはこのくにては十二日也
たこくにてはあさかほのはなをはかなき
ものとすれどもこの九ににてはあさ
かほをめでたきものとしあさかほ

現代語訳
《題：暗迷国》
和荘兵衛はまた一つの国に到着した。この国は「暗迷国」といって、暗く迷うという意味の国である。
この国では他国の一ヶ月が、この国の一年となる。一日が一ヶ月、一時が一日となる。そのため他国の一日十二時は、この国では十二日である。
他国では朝顔の花を儚いものとするけれども、この国では朝顔を目出たいものとし、「朝顔の八千代」などと歌にも詠む。正月も竹を探してきて門松の代わりとする。儚い国である。
【ここより中巻】
他の国では「不遇の一期」「秋の蝉」などと言って、これらのものを儚いもののたとえとする。この暗迷国の厄払いの言うことを聞けば、不遇は千年、蝉は万年、蜉蝣や稲妻は八千歳、三浦の高尾は百六十歳などと言う。他国では儚いとするものは、みな目出たいものとするのである。

《Title: The Country of Dark Delusion》
Wasōbei arrived at yet another country. This country is called "Anmei-koku" (The Country of Dark Delusion), meaning a land of darkness and confusion.
In this country, one month in other lands equals one year here. One day becomes one month, and one hour becomes one day. Therefore, what is twelve hours in a single day in other countries becomes twelve days in this country.
In other countries, morning glory flowers are considered ephemeral things, but in this country morning glories are considered auspicious, and they even compose poems like "morning glories of eight thousand generations." For New Year's, they search for bamboo to use as substitutes for pine decorations. It is truly a fleeting country.

In other countries, people say "a lifetime of misfortune" or "autumn cicada" and use these as examples of transient things. But if you listen to what the exorcists of this Country of Dark Delusion say, misfortune lasts a thousand years, cicadas live ten thousand years, mayflies and lightning live eight thousand years, and Takao of Miura lived one hundred sixty years. What other countries consider ephemeral, they all consider auspicious.
