現代語訳
大亀は梅がえを竜宮へと連れて来て申すには、「八大竜王に跡継ぎがなく、私に世を譲ってくださるということなので、いよいよ安楽です。どうぞ長くこの所に逗留してください」と、いろいろともてなす。

本当によく弾きなさいますね。いっそう、ええ声ですね。
亀の好当、亀山節を歌う：
「こんな縁が日本にもあろうか、チンツンテン」
こうして梅がえは竜の都に留まり、いろいろな馳走になって、思わず日を送ったが、遠く千秋のことが懐かしく、明け暮れ忘れかねたので、腰元たちも気の毒がって、様々な馳走をして心を慰めた。
そもそも竜宮の馳走は当代も特別で、大抵は精進料理。生臭い物は川魚、鳥類、卵などで、とかくよく出るものは昆布、海松、荒布、おごのり、ひじきなどの海草。こちらの青菜、大根、人参、牛蒡の煮物、田螺の壺入りなどはきつく跳ねた。

The great turtle brought Umegae to the Dragon Palace and said: "Since the Eight Great Dragon Kings have no heir and wish to pass the world to me, I am increasingly at ease. Please stay in this place for a long time," and entertained her in various ways.

Thus Umegae remained in the dragon capital, receiving various hospitalities and unexpectedly spending her days there. But she nostalgically remembered distant Senshu and could not forget him day and night. The court ladies felt sorry for her and tried to console her heart with various feasts.
Now, the feasts of the Dragon Palace were special even by contemporary standards, mostly consisting of vegetarian cuisine. The flesh dishes were river fish, birds, eggs and such. What was commonly served were seaweeds like kelp, sea pine, rough kelp, ogonori, and hijiki. The vegetables from our world - greens, daikon radish, carrots, burdock root stews, and river snails served in pots - were firmly rejected.
