昔、近江国伊吹山のふもとに永持道意という者がいた。もとは藤原氏の名門であったが、保元の乱を避けてこの地に引きこもり、伊吹山のよもぎを採取して精製し、もぐさを作ることを生業としていた。
ある時、道意がもぐさの精製に疲れてうとうとしていると、不思議な霊夢を見た。
「前々から申し上げておりますが、私は伊豆国山内谷という地に住む池水稲荷です。私は昔からの因縁があって、あなたに幸福を告げるのです。今夜、源義朝の三男である源頼朝がこの場所にやって来るでしょう。彼は将来天下を掌握して四海を太平にする寛仁大度の相を持っています。あなたが影のように身を離れず守り立てれば、将来あなたの家は富み栄えるでしょう。このことを告げるために参りました。決して疑ってはなりません。」

Long ago, at the foot of Mount Ibuki in Ōmi Province, there lived a man named Nagamochi Dōi. Originally from the noble Fujiwara clan, he had withdrawn to this place to avoid the Hōgen Rebellion and made his living by gathering mugwort from Mount Ibuki, refining it, and making moxa.
One day, when Dōi had grown tired from refining moxa and was dozing, he had a mysterious spiritual dream.
"As I have been telling you repeatedly, I am the Ikesu Inari who dwells in a place called Yamanouchi Valley in Izu Province. Due to an ancient connection, I am here to tell you of good fortune. Tonight, Minamoto no Yoritomo, the third son of Minamoto no Yoshitomo, will come to this place. He possesses the physiognomy of magnanimity and great tolerance, and will in the future control the realm and bring peace to all four seas. If you stay close to him like a shadow and support him, your house will prosper with wealth in the future. I have come to tell you this. Do not doubt it in the least."
