現代語訳
政子姫が頼朝を見初めてから、ひたすらに恋い患い給い、朝夕のお食事も進まず、ぶらぶら病で患い給うので、時政は非常に心配し、お抱えの医師くだすりうあんに様子を伺った。これは恋の病を多く召し上がっているのが原因だと申し上げる。

【ここより中巻】
お抱え医師くだすりうあんの指示により、姫君の病気のお慰めのため、早速山内屋孫兵衛を呼び寄せたところ、唐紙表紙をはじめ青本赤本黒表紙一枚の漆絵、新版古版の数々を取り集めて持参した。
このとき腰元せきやが孫兵衛を木陰へ招き、ひそかに申すには「姫君のご病気は過ごしころ鶴岡八幡宮へご参詣の時、切もぐさ売りの若衆を見初め給いよりのご恋患いです。この若衆はきっと当国の者でしょうから、何とぞ名前と居所を聞き出し、姫君の恋の仲立ちをして差し上げよ」と話す。
【孫兵衛】
それこそとても易しいご用です。その若衆は私の隣のもぐさ屋道意と申す者の息子です。幸い姫君が囲碁のお遊びをなさるはずと聞けば、そのもぐさのご用事を口実に、ご出入りを願う手段を巡らしましょう。その若衆はまったく新車に生き写しです。この絵よりももう少し似ていて良いですよ。

Following the instructions of personal physician Kudasuriuan, to comfort the princess in her illness, they immediately summoned Yamauchiya Gonbei. He gathered and brought various items including books with decorative paper covers, blue books, red books, black covers, single-sheet lacquer paintings, and various new and old editions.
At this time, lady-in-waiting Sekiya beckoned Gonbei to the shade of a tree and secretly told him: "The princess's illness is lovesickness that began when she fell in love at first sight with a young moxibustion seller during her recent visit to Tsurugaoka Hachimangū. This young man must surely be from this province, so please find out his name and whereabouts, and help arrange the princess's romance."

That is indeed a very easy request. That young man is the son of my neighbor, a moxibustion seller named Dōi. Fortunately, I hear that the princess is supposed to play go, so I shall devise a plan to request entry to the residence using moxibustion business as a pretext. That young man is exactly like a living image of Shinsha. He looks even more like him than this picture shows.
