現代語訳
円二郎は浮名屋（遊廓）の「浮名」という名前のある女郎に決めて、十人が十人とも惚れられるつもりで、一杯に見栄を張り、地盤の半襟ばかりいじって、偉そうにしているが、色男というのもさてさて気の詰まることだなあと思う。

大黒屋の旦那ではないが、なんでも女郎衆の双六だね。
もし、お遊女さん、あなたのことを世間ではとんだ手の内のある女郎だと申します。
【本文続き】
円二郎は女郎買いに出ても家へ帰って焼餅を焼く者がなければ張り合いがないと、肝煎りを頼み、焼餅さえよく焼けば器量は望まないという注文で、四十近い女をしっかりと金二百両で妾として囲う。
【男たちの台詞】
去年の春、中捨てで勝った地獄ではないかしら。
小便組などというところは御免だよ。

私をお囲いなされましての、大方女郎買いや色事で私をお構いはなされますまいと、もう少し手見せに焼きかける。

Enjirō decided on a courtesan named "Ukina" (Floating Reputation) at the pleasure quarter called Ukinaya, intending to make every single person fall for him. He put on great airs, fussing only with the decorative collar of his undergarment, acting pretentious, but thinking that being a playboy is truly an exhausting affair.

Enjirō thought that even if he frequented courtesans, there would be no satisfaction if no one was at home to be jealous when he returned. So he asked a go-between to find him a woman, specifying that as long as she was good at being jealous, he didn't care about her looks. He kept a woman close to forty as his mistress for a substantial sum of two hundred ryō.
