馬は生き物にて百匹が百匹、口向き同じからず。一匹よく乗れたりとて、余の馬がきっと乗れるにあらず。女郎もまたかくのごとく、一人が持てたとて、また他のが持てるにあらず。事の駆け馬も残らず乗り尽くしければ、島原、丸山、石垣、縄手、葛籠切りも無き女郎を乗りなば、いろいろの口向きありて馬術の稽古も明らかんと、日夜に来たり、上げ詰めにして稽古する。

Horses are living creatures, and no hundred horses among a hundred have the same temperament. Just because one can ride one horse well doesn't mean one can definitely ride other horses. Courtesans are also like this - just because one can please one doesn't mean one can please others. Having ridden through all the racing horses without exception, they think that if they were to "ride" courtesans from Shimabara, Maruyama, Ishigaki, Nawate, and even those from Tsuzura-kiri with no limits, there would be various temperaments and the practice of horsemanship would become clear. So they come day and night, making it their constant practice.
