...resembling the diagonal path of the bishop piece. At the first meeting in the parlor, there is the "first check"; in the familiar bed, there is "entering kingship" (promotion). Though love is rich in gold and silver, it gives no pause for thought. Even the resolute "Ishida formation" crumbles; even one who has fortified himself within the castle turret (yagura) is instantly broken through. How fearsome it is to be cornered by such cunning stratagems into a "capital checkmate" (miyako-zume). The knight piece, puffed up with pride, becomes fodder for the humble pawn; the lance piece, lacking foresight, brings ruin upon itself. Some are ensnared by the obligations of the "flying chariot check" (hisha-te ōte); others suffer under the debt of a "trailing check" (ato-ōte).
