臨期（こにのそん）で二歩をつかひ。留（る）主を
つかふといへども。借金乞（かけこひ）の為に
逃（にげ）道を失（うしな）ひ。送（つい）に雪隠通（せつちんつめ）と
成（なる）あり。客（じよらうかひ）と将棋 囲（をさす）は一手 先（さき）
はみへざるべし則（すなはち）娼妓絹
籭を作（つく）る。予（よ）がへぼ象戯（しやうき）の
及（およば）ざる所（ところ）は段将棋（だんしやうぎ）の助言（じよごん）
を乞（こふ）而已（のみ）。

その場に臨んで二歩を使い（禁じ手を犯し）、留主（るす）を使うといえども、掛け買いの借金のために逃げ道を失い、ついに雪隠詰め（せっちんづめ）となることもある。客（女郎買い）と将棋を指すは、一手先も見えぬものであろう。そこで、すなわち『娼妓絹籭（しょうぎきぬぶるい）』を作る。私（わたし）のへぼ将棋の及ばぬところは、段位の将棋指しの助言を乞うのみである。
寛政三年辛亥（かのとい）解凍の日、菊花亭にて題す。

Having reached that critical moment, one plays a "two-pawn" move (an illegal move, breaking the rules), and though one tries to make excuses and stall for time, the debts from credit purchases cut off all means of escape, and one ultimately ends up in a "privy-corner checkmate" (setchin-zume). For one who plays shogi with a courtesan, not even the next move can be foreseen. It is for this reason that I compose "Shōgi Kinuburu" (Courtesans as a Silk Sieve / Shogi). As for those matters beyond the reach of my clumsy shogi, I ask only for the guidance of a dan-ranked shogi player.
Written on a thawing day in the third year of Kansei, the year of the Metal Boar (1791), at the Kikukatei.
