現代語訳
客は梯子を二段上る。
女郎、手水（ちょうず）の顔にて横に行く。芸者（けいしゃ）を一枚打つ。女郎、二間（けん）目の座敷へ逃げる。
開いて大手（おうて）を取る。
また一つ間に逃げる。頭から銀と打つ。女郎、不足に思い取らず、脇へ寄る。また近くと打つ。女郎がそこで死ぬ。

英語訳
The customer climbs two rungs up the ladder.
The courtesan, with a face as if washing up (indifferent, going through the motions), moves sideways. He plays a geisha-piece (one card/piece). The courtesan retreats two rooms away.
He opens up and delivers a check (ōte).
She retreats again into another room. He drops a silver piece from above. The courtesan, dissatisfied, does not take it, and moves to the side. He strikes again, drawing closer. The courtesan is checkmated there (dies).
