現代語訳
万吉は相撲には負けたけれども、書画については自分に及ぶ者はいないだろうと高慢になっていたので、あの豆天狗と書き比べをさせた。ところがなかなか万吉の足元にも及ばないということはなかったので、天狗が万吉の鼻の先を爪で少し削ったところ、また鼻が少し低くなった。

英語訳
Although Mankichi had lost at sumo wrestling, he became arrogant thinking that no one could match him in calligraphy and painting. So they had him compete in writing with that bean-tengu. However, since the bean-tengu was quite capable and not far inferior to Mankichi, the tengu scraped Mankichi's nose tip a little with his claws, and his nose became somewhat lower again.
