現代語訳
万吉は段々成長するにしたがって傲慢になり、「自分より賢明で器用で美しい子はいないだろう」と思うようになった。不思議なことに、傲慢な心が募るにしたがって鼻が少し高くなったので、万右衛門は育て方の工夫が外れなかったことを喜び、いよいよ傲慢に仕込んだ。
