諸人（しよにん）もしあやまりて是（ぜ）は是（ぜ）とする心（こゝろ）あらばはや是（ぜ）に
あらず実（じつ）に是（ぜ）なる時（とき）は是（ぜ）を忘（わす）れて知（し）らぬ故（ゆへ）是（ぜ）なり故（ゆへ）
いかなればむかしより聖人（せいじん）に聖人（せいじん）といふ心（こゝろ）ありしをきかず
孝子（こうし）もわれ孝行（こう〳〵）にすると覚（おぼ）えぬによりて孝子（こうし）なり
花（はな）ははなを知（し）らす水（みづ）は水（みづ）をしらず生（）しやうも死（し）も草（くさ）も
また〳〵おなし
我（われ）はこれなにものぞ何（なに）ものぞと
頭項（づちやう）より尻（しり）までさぐるべし探（さぐ）る
ともさぐられぬところは我（われ）なり

頭項（づちやう）より尻（しり）までとは惣身（そうみ）をいふ也 此（この）身（み）あるがごとくなれ
ども能々（よく〳〵）さぐりをしきはめて見（み）ればなきがごとしその
わけは常（つね）に大（おほ）かた身（み）を忘（わす）れてゐるなり忘（わす）れてゐれば
虚空（こくう）に似（に）たり其（その）虚空（こくう）があつさ寒（さむ）さいたさかゆさを
よく知（し）る也そのしるものを目（め）なしといふなりこれが
まことのわれにして無我（むが）の大我（だいが）ともいふなり此（この）大我（たいが）
はつかまへ所（どころ）なきものゆへさぐられぬ所（ところ）といふなり
現代語訳
是は是、非は非にしておき、生は生、死は
死、花は花、水は水、草は草、土は土である。
抄
人々がもし間違って「是は是である」と意識する心があれば、もはや是では
ない。真に是である時は、是を忘れて知らないから是なのである。だから
どうしてか昔から聖人に「聖人である」という意識があったと聞いたことがない。
孝子も自分が孝行をしていると自覚しないからこそ孝子なのである。
花は花であることを知らず、水は水であることを知らず、生も死も草も
また同じである。
我とは一体何者なのか、何者なのかと
頭頂から尻まで探るべきである。探っても
探られないところが我である。
抄
頭頂から尻までとは全身のことである。この身体があるようだが、
よくよく探し尽くして見ればないようなものである。その
理由は、常に大抵身体を忘れているからである。忘れていれば
虚空に似ている。その虚空が暑さ寒さ痛さ痒さを
よく知るのである。その知るものを目なしというのである。これが
真の我であって、無我の大我ともいうのである。この大我は
つかまえどころのないものだから、探られない所というのである。
英語訳
Right is right, wrong is wrong - leave them as they are. Life is life, death is
death, flowers are flowers, water is water, grass is grass, earth is earth.

If people mistakenly have the consciousness that "right is right," then it is no longer
right. When it is truly right, it is right because one forgets rightness and is unaware of it. Therefore,
how is it that we have never heard of a sage having the consciousness of being a sage since ancient times?
A filial child is a filial child precisely because they are unaware of performing filial acts.
Flowers do not know they are flowers, water does not know it is water, and life, death, and grass are
all the same.
What am I? What am I? One should
search from the crown of the head to the buttocks. What cannot be found
even when searching is the self.
Extract
"From crown of head to buttocks" refers to the entire body. Though this body seems to exist,
when one searches thoroughly and exhaustively, it is as if it does not exist. The
reason is that we are constantly forgetting the body most of the time. When forgotten,
it resembles empty space. That empty space well knows heat, cold, pain, and itching.
That which knows is called "without eyes." This is
the true self, also called the great self of no-self. This great self
has nowhere to be grasped, so it is called the place that cannot be searched.
