せんと憂（うれ）へ給へりかゝる化人（くはじん）たちの心（こゝろ）を尽（つく）し給へる
書（しよ）に野人（やじん）の辟見（へきけん）にて用心（ようじん）をふれまはるは卑陋（ひろう）の
もちろん
いたり勿論（もちろん）なりされ共 世（よ）に広（ひろ）くふせかんとには
あらず若（もし）我（われ）とひとしき拙（つたな）き人（ひと）もあらは便（たよ）りにも
ならんかと我（わ）が好（この）むかたにとりなして解（とき）ちらせは
本意（ほんゐ）にはよらずたゞこざかしき何（なに）もなしの血気（けつき）
無者（みしや）のおそろしさ向（むか）ふ見（み）ずにめなしのまね
して脇見（わきみ）してありく危（あぶな）さをたすけんとなり

たとへば此（この）身（み）を執着（しうぢやく）し有（う）の見（けん）を立（たつ）るものは
火（ひ）を重宝（ちやうほう）と思（おも）ひて火（ひ）を取（とり）ちらくるがごとし
いつぞはあやまりて火事（くはじ）を出来（でか）さんもはかり
がたしまた強（しゐ）て心（こゝろ）を断滅（つぶし）無（む）の見（けん）を執（しう）ずるもの
はひとへに諸見（しよけん）の火（ひ）をきらひ密室（みつしつ）の炉中（ろちう）へ悉（こと〴〵）く
火（ひ）を集（あつ）め其 上（うへ）へ蓋（ふた）をして火（ひ）はなしとするが
ごとし自性（じしやう）の霊光（れいくはう）本分（ほんぶん）の知見（ちけん）はたつとも絶（たゝ）るゝ
ものにあらずされば火（ひ）は世界（せかい）にありうちのもの

現代語訳

せんと憂えておられる。このような化人たちが心を尽くして下さった書物に対して、野人の偏見で用心を触れ回るのは卑陋の至りで、もちろんのことである。しかしながら、世に広く布教しようというのではない。もし私と同じような拙い人もいれば、便りにもなろうかと、我が好む方向に解釈して説き散らすのは、本意によらず、ただ小賢しい何もなしの血気無者の恐ろしさ、向こうを見ずに目なしの真似をして脇見しながら歩く危うさを助けようとするのである。

たとえばこの身を執着し有の見を立てる者は、火を重宝と思って火を取り散らかすようなものである。いつか誤って火事を起こすかもしれないことも計り難い。また強いて心を断滅し無の見を執する者は、ひとえに諸見の火を嫌い、密室の炉中へことごとく火を集め、その上へ蓋をして火はないとするようなものである。自性の霊光、本分の知見は尊いものであっても絶えるものではない。されば火は世界にあり、内のもの
