我（われ）とは私案（しあん）なり私案（しあん）なければ身（み）を
忘（わす）れて自性（じしやう）の光（ひかり）のみあきらかにして
我（われ）なしといへる言葉（ことば）也（なり）我（われ）なけれ
何（なに）の悪（あく）をかなすべきかの石川五右衛門（いしかわごゑもん）
とかや焔魔（ゑんま）の庁（ちやう）に付所（つけどころ）なしと悟道（ごだう）を

目なし用心抄 序
どのような状態を「目なし」というのだろうか。「目」とは我（自我）のことである。
我とは私欲や私心のことである。私心がなければ身を
忘れて、自性（本来の性質）の光のみが明らかになって、
「我がない」という言葉となる。我がなければ、
どのような悪をなすことがあるだろうか。あの石川五右衛門
とかいう者も、閻魔王の法廷において付け入る隙がないと悟りを

Menashi Yōjinshō (Cautionary Notes for the Blind) - Preface
What state do we call "menashi" (without eyes)? "Me" (eyes) refers to the ego or self.
The self refers to selfish thoughts and private concerns. When there are no selfish thoughts, one forgets the body,
and only the light of one's true nature (jishō) becomes clear,
resulting in the expression "there is no self." If there is no self,
what evil could one possibly commit? Even that Ishikawa Goemon
fellow, it is said, achieved enlightenment when he realized there was nothing for
Enma's court to find fault with.
