と二百人 講（こう）四百人 講（こう）入相（いりあい）の
鐘（かね）に花も実（み）も取（と）つたか見たる
の世の中なれば中〳〵もつて
思ひもよらずある夜（よ）の夢（ゆめ）に何（なに）かは
お先（さき）まつらにして黒（くろ）仕立（じたて）の
三ツ紋（もん）かと見ればふたつもじの牛（うし）
の角（つの）くらやみからによつとはへたり
アラふしぎやことしのゑとは丑（うし）の
としまつた夜（よ）も丑（うし）みつなるにかゝる
大きなる牛（うし）のあらはれしは丑（うし）の時に
参りのふみ台（だい）か市原野（いちはらの）のおつかぶせ
歟（か）なんにもせよとりきんで見せて
も牛の角（つの）を蜂（はち）の如（ごと）くのろり〳〵
と尾（お）をひいていつくともなく出（いで）
ゆけばもしもせんぎの手かゝりかと
牛（うし）の小便（せいべん）十八丁はまたおろか十三り
さきのかまちらかう長〳〵と跡
をしたひて一ツの寺のかたへに着
ぬこれこそ牛にひかれて来たれ
はざしつめ信濃（しなの）の善光寺かと
思ひの外むさしの国こう福寺
牛の御前の鳥居のまへにてさし
もの大きなる牛いけすの中へ
どんふらこと落るやいなやにはか
水さかまき上り龍門の滝のみへ
数千丈の上より落れば水中
より一つの鯉うろこをうこかしひれ
をあけたちまち飛竜（ひりやう）のすかたと
変しヤア〳〵うろこやたしかにきけ

現代語訳
二百人講、四百人講、入相の鐘に花も実も取ったかと見える世の中なので、まったく思いもよらず、ある夜の夢に何かお先真っ暗にして、黒仕立ての三つ紋かと見れば、二つ文字の牛の角、暗闇からによっと現れた。
ああ不思議や、今年の干支は丑年だった。夜も丑三つ時なのに、かかる大きな牛が現れたのは丑の時に参りの踏み台か、市原野の落ち被せか。何にもせよ、取り急いで見せても、牛の角を蜂のごとく、のろのろと尾を引いて、いずくともなく出て行けば、もしも詮議の手がかりかと。
牛の小便十八丁はまたおろか、十三里先の構えまで、長々と跡を慕って、一つの寺の方に着いた。これこそ牛に引かれて来たれば、差し詰め信濃の善光寺かと思いの外、武蔵国光福寺、牛の御前の鳥居の前にて、差しもの大きなる牛、池の中へどんぶらこと落ちるやいなや、にわかに水逆巻き上がり、竜門の滝のように数千丈の上より落ちれば、水中より一つの鯉、鱗を動かし鰭を開け、たちまち飛竜の姿と変じた。
「やあやあ、鱗よ、確かに聞け。我はこれ鎌倉の葛西□□太郎」

In this world where groups of two hundred and four hundred people gather for religious lectures, and at the evening bell it seems as if all flowers and fruits have been gathered, quite unexpectedly one night in a dream, something made everything pitch black, and what appeared to be a black formal garment with three crests turned out to be a two-character ox with horns that suddenly emerged from the darkness.
Oh, how strange! This year's zodiac sign was the Year of the Ox. Even though it was the hour of the ox (around 2 AM) at night, such a large ox appeared during the ox hour - was it a stepping stone for worship, or perhaps a trap at Ichihara field? Whatever it was, even when I hurriedly tried to look, the ox's horns moved like bees, slowly dragging its tail as it departed to somewhere unknown. I wondered if this might be a clue for investigation.
The ox's urine stretched eighteen chō, or rather thirteen ri ahead to the gate structure. Following this long trail, I arrived at a certain temple. Since I had been led here by an ox, I thought it must surely be Zenkōji Temple in Shinano Province, but contrary to expectation, it was Kōfukuji Temple in Musashi Province. In front of the torii gate before the Ox Deity, this remarkably large ox fell with a splash into a pond. Immediately, water swirled up violently, and like the falls of Dragon Gate, it cascaded down from several thousand jō above. From within the water emerged a single carp that moved its scales and spread its fins, instantly transforming into the form of a flying dragon.
"Hey! Scales, listen well! I am Kasai [□□] Tarō of Kamakura!"
