差置候故薮守共麁末仕御竹薮能キ竹不
罷出笹薮同前ニ罷成候御不審之通可申
上様も無御座候来春ニも罷成候ハヽ村人共ヲ以
薮木枯竹笹竹下草等伐払候而能竹之子
生出申候様随分手かいせう仕可申候事
一 御竹薮之内雪折竹立枯竹等御座候ハヽ御訴
可申候薮守ハ不及申村役人たり共無御断
内所ニ而自由成義仕間敷候事
右之通此度御廻り御改被成被仰聞候趣一々承知
仕候然上ハ随分大切ニ相守能竹生出申候様心かけ
可申候猶又此度被仰聞候趣村中惣百姓男女子共

現代語訳
差し置いた故、薮守共が粗末にいたし、御竹薮の良い竹が生えて来ず、笹薮同様になってしまいました。ご不審の通り申し上げようもございません。来春にでもなりましたならば、村人共を以て薮木・枯竹・笹竹・下草等を伐り払い、良い竹の子が生え出るよう、随分手入れをいたすべき事
一 御竹薮の内で雪折れ竹・立ち枯れ竹等がございましたならば、ご訴訟申すべきです。薮守は申すに及ばず、村役人といえども、お断りなく内密に自由な事をしてはならない事
右の通り、この度お廻りでお改めになられ、仰せ聞かされた趣旨を一々承知いたしました。然る上は、随分大切に相守り、良い竹が生え出るよう心がけ申すべきです。なお又、この度仰せ聞かされた趣旨を、村中総百姓男女子供まで申し付け、なお又竹の子の時分を大切にいたすべきです。後日のため、名主・組頭・長百姓・薮守共が判を押します。よって件の如し。

...having been neglected, the grove guardians have been negligent, and good bamboo has not grown in the protected bamboo groves, which have become like mere bamboo grass thickets. As you suspect, there is no excuse we can offer. When spring comes, we shall have the villagers clear away grove trees, dead bamboo, bamboo grass, undergrowth, and such, and we shall diligently tend the area so that good bamboo shoots may grow.
Item: If there are snow-broken bamboo or standing dead bamboo within the protected bamboo grove, we shall report it. Not only the grove guardians, but even village officials must not act freely in private without permission.
As stated above, we have understood each and every point of the instructions given during this inspection tour. Therefore, we shall take great care to protect the groves and ensure that good bamboo grows. Furthermore, we shall convey the instructions given on this occasion to all the villagers, men, women, and children alike, and we shall take special care during bamboo shoot season. For future reference, the village headman, group leaders, senior farmers, and grove guardians affix their seals accordingly.
