薮守共ニ不申付而指置候故薮守共麁末
仕御竹薮能キ竹不仕出笹薮同前ニ罷成
御不審之通可申上様も無御座候来春ニも
罷成候ハヽ村人足ヲ以薮木枯竹笹竹下草
等切払ニ而能キ竹之子仕出申様に随分手がい
せう仕可申候事
一 御竹薮之内雪折竹立枯竹等御座候ハヽ
御所え可申候薮守ハ不及申村役人たり共無御断而
内所ニ而自由成義仕間敷候事
右之通此度御改御廻り被成被仰聞趣一々
承知仕候然上ハ随分大切ニ相守り能キ竹
生出申様ニ心かけ可申候猶又此度被仰聞候趣
村中惣百姓男女之子共迄申付候而猶又
竹之子之時分大切ニ可仕候為後日名主
組頭長百姓薮守共判形仍如件

現代語訳
薮守どもに申し付けずに放置していましたため、薮守どもが粗末に致し、竹薮に良い竹が育たず笹薮同然になってしまい、お疑いのとおり申し上げる様子もございません。来春にでもなりましたならば、村人足を使って薮木・枯竹・笹竹・下草等を切り払い、良い筍が育つよう随分手入れを致します。
一 竹薮の内に雪折れした竹・立ち枯れした竹等がございましたならば、お役所へ申し出ます。薮守は申すに及ばず、村役人であっても無断で内々に勝手なことはいたしません。
右のとおり、この度の御改めの御回りで仰せ聞かされました趣旨を一々承知いたしました。しかる上は随分大切に相守り、良い竹が生え出るよう心がけ申します。なお又、この度仰せ聞かされました趣旨を村中総百姓男女の子どもまで申し付け、なお又筍の時分を大切に致します。後日のため名主・組頭・長百姓・薮守どもが判を押します。よって件のごとし。

We had neglected to give proper instructions to the bamboo grove keepers, leaving them unattended. As a result, the bamboo grove keepers have been negligent, and the bamboo groves have failed to produce good bamboo, becoming like mere bamboo grass thickets, just as you suspected. There is nothing we can say in our defense. When spring comes, we will use village laborers to clear away grove trees, dead bamboo, bamboo grass, undergrowth, etc., and will diligently tend to the groves so that good bamboo shoots will grow.
Item: If there are snow-broken bamboo, standing dead bamboo, etc. within the bamboo groves, we will report to the authorities. Not only the bamboo grove keepers, but even village officials shall not act arbitrarily in private without permission.
As stated above, we have understood each and every instruction given during this inspection tour. From now on, we will carefully protect the groves and endeavor to grow good bamboo. Furthermore, we will convey the instructions given this time to all the villagers, including men, women, and children, and will take special care during bamboo shoot season. For future reference, the village headman, group heads, senior farmers, and bamboo grove keepers affix their seals hereto.
